Guest guest
Mahatma Gandhi is well known the world over especially for his principle of ahimsa or non-violence. There are several instances in his life, when he stuck to the path of ahimsa even when the others came to harm him. Let's have a look at an instance.

Once Mahatma had been to South Africa. There was a faction there that was against Gandhiji. They were waiting for a change to injure Gandhiji, and they saw this as a perfect opportunity to take out their anger. They decided to give him a welcome with stone showers. They assembled at the port, with stones in their hands. The moment they saw Gandhiji come out, they ruthlessly threw stones at him. The followers of Gandhi immediately, stopped them, and they ran away. Though the followers stopped the assailants, Gandhiji was injured. But the injuries that he incurred did not invoke any anger in his heart.

The press then came to interview Gandhiji to enquire about the episode. But, Gandhiji sticking to the principle of Ahimsa, had then and there forgiven the attackers, and refused to blame or comment on the attackers.

The attackers read the interview with Gandhiji in the paper, and saw how he had protected them, and didn't give them away even when they harmed him. This lit the lamp of love and ahimsa in their hearts, and they became followers of Gandhiji.

All through his life he followed Ahimsa. Even at the final moment, when Godsey, shot Gandhiji with a gun, Gandhiji asked his followers to abstain from harming the assailant, but to forgive him, for what he did in his ignorance. Even as he was dying, he prayed to Ram and asked God to forgive Godsey. The last words he muttered were 'He Ram '.

Is it a wonder then that India is the ONLY country in the world to get independence through ahimsa or non-violence.

On this day that marks the 55th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi I wish to pay my homage to the revered 'Father of our Nation'.

'Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram,
Pathitha paavana Seetha Ram'.

Hari Aum !!!
