Om aspirants

According to Swami Rajarshi

Muni, changes in Leshya produces different

characteristics, smells and colours to the human aura. A sattvic

influx of Leshya will produce light colours and a

pleasant odour. A rajasic Leshya produces ‘gaudy’ colours

and a pungent odor while a tamasic Leshya produces

dark colours and an unpleasant, acrid odour. Tamasic

aura colours are black and bluish, Rajasic aura

colours are green and red, Sattvic aura colours are

orange and white.

But this idea of the colours of

aura reflecting the the gunas is not unique to the

Jains. Sikh and Hindu swamis tend to wear orange.

Sivananda Yoga teachers are encouraged to wear white and

yellow. Brahmacharis wear yellow. My first teacher,

Yogiraj Krishan Siddhu, was a Sikh, and one of the

visualizations he taught regarding alternate nostril breathing

was to inhale energy and give that energy a light

colour and when exhaling to exhale tension and

impurities and to give that exhale a dark colour. The longer

one practiced alternate nostril breathing at a given

sitting, the more tension and impurities would be released

and the lighter the colour of the exhale would

become.

Also, in the US comic strip Lil Abner, there was a

character named Joe Bfstplk. He was depicted as the world’s

most loving friend but always with a dark rain cloud

above him and always a jinx. The rain cloud, of course,

could easily be a metaphor for his aura and the jinx

aspect could be a metaphor for the karmic prices to be

paid for his tamasic ways.

All groups and

cultures seem to associate red with action and danger,

green with jealousy, black with evil or sluggishness.

So, these auric colours are commonly perceived by

all.

Jaya Guru

Omprem
