THE INCARNATION OF KRISHNA

Namaste. This reminds me a few more of my favorite, important slokas

(verses) from Srimad Bhagavatam (Pramahamsyaam Samahitam):

These prayers were said by the great devotee, Queen Kuntidevi adoring

Lord Krishna.

"I, an ignorant woman, make obeisance to You, the Prime Person,

transcending Prakriti and dwelling INSIDE as well as OUTSIDE ALL

created beings, the Invisible and Imperishable God existing beyond

the range of SENSE-PERCEPTION and screened by the CURTAIN of MAYA.

You CANNOT be seen by a man of PERVERTED vision even as a DUNCE would

FAIL to RECOGNIZE an ACTOR appearing in a GARB appropriate to the

STAGE.

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.18,19)

"tathA paramahaMsAnAM munInAM amalAtmanAM

bhakti yoga vidhAnArthaM kathaM pazyema hi striyaH"

(Bhagavatam 1.8.20)

Meaning: How, then, can we womenfolk percieve You, Who have appeared

in our MIDST just to engender DEVOTION in the HEART of Paramahamsas

(those endowed with the Eye distinguishing the material from the

spiritual) who are given to CONTEMPLATION and PURE of HEART?

Salutations to Krishna born of Vasudeva and Devaki !

Salutations again and again to the Brahman of the Upanishads who has

appeared in his sportive manifestation as the son of Nanda.

(1.8.21)

"namaH paGkaja nAbhAya !

namaH paGkaja mAline !

namaH paGkaja netrAya !

namaste paGkajAGghraye !"

(Bhagavatam 1.8.22)

Humble obeisances to You, my Beloved Lord,

Whose navel is adorned with a Lotus!

Sincere salutations to You, wearing a garland of Lotus flowers!

More obeisances to You, possessing Lotus-like eyes!

And more salutations to my Beloved Krishna,

Whose feet resemble tender Lotus blossoms!

" vipadaH santu naH zazvat tatra tatra jagadguro,

bhavato darzanaM yasyAd apunarbhava darzanam."

"O Teacher of the world!

May calamities befall us at every step through eternity!

IT IS IN ADVERSITY ALONE THAT WE ARE BLESSED WITH YOUR SIGHT, WHICH

ELIMINATES THE POSSIBILITY OF OUR SEEING ANOTHER BIRTH."

"A man whose birth, power, learning and affluence ONLY SERVE to swell

his pride, is unable even to utter YOUR NAME, YOU BEING OPEN TO THE

PERCEPTION OF ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE NOTHING TO CALL THEIR OWN."

"YOU ARE THE ONLY WEALTH OF THOSE WHO HAVE NO SENSE OF POSSESSION.

Beyond the realm of three Gunas of Maya, YOU DELIGHT IN YOUR OWNSELF

AND PERFECTLY PEACEFUL.

YOU are the LORD OF FINAL BEATITUDE.

I BOW TO YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN."

(Bhagavatam 1.8.25, 26, 27)

No one can UNDERSTAND the REAL intentions of Your sportive actions

when You simulate the ways of men in Your incarnations.

None is friendly or inimical to You. You come only to redeem Jivas

and even the destruction of so called enemies is only to bless them

and give them SALVATION thereby.

(1.8.29)

"bhave 'smin klizyamAnAnAM avidyAkAma karmabhiH

zravaNa smaraNArhANi kariSyanniti kecana"

"zRNvanti gAyanti gRNanty abhIkSNazaH

smaranti nandanti tave hitaM janAH

ta eva pazyanty acireNa tAvakaM

bhava pravAho paramaM padAmbujam"

(Bhagavatam 1.8.35,36)

Meaning: Some others maintain that You have descended on earth with

the intention of PERFORMONG deeds fit to be HEARD OF and DWELT UPON

by those who are tormented in this world by ignorance, selfish

desires and sinful acts.

That is why Your devotees constantly LISTEN to, SING, REPEAT to

others and CONTEMPLATE on Your stories and rejoice; and it is they

ALONE who behold before long Your Lotus feet that put an END to the

stream of births and deaths."

"O Lord, You are not only the Ruler and the Soul of the Universe but

the UNIVERSE Itself!

Kindly CUT asunder the STRONG BOND OF AFFECTION THAT BINDS ME WITH MY

OWN FAMILY and RELATIVES, the Pandus and Vrshnis (Yadavas).

Even as the River Ganges INCESSANTLY POURS its waters into the Ocean,

SO LET MY HEART AND THOUGHTS, O Lord Krishna, CONSTANTLY DELIGHT IN

YOU ALONE!!

(Bhagavatam 1.8.41, 42)

Jaya Sri Radhey! Namaste all.

More sublime verses from Srimad Bhagavatam about:

THE INCARNATION OF KRISHNA

"anugrahAya bhUtAnAM

mAnuSaM deham AsthitaH

bhajate tA dRzIh krIdA

yAH zrutvA tat paro bhavet"

(Bhagavatam 10.33.37)

Out of His Causeless Grace and Unlimited Compassion, Lord Krishna

descends on earth in a Human Form and exhibits His Transcendental

Pastimes, so that the conditioned souls may be attracted to hearing

those Blissful exploits performed by Him and become absorbed in

Divine Love contemplation.

The exalted Gopis have also said in Their Gopika-Gitam :

"nakhalu gopikA nandano bhavAn

akhila dehinAm antarAtma dRk,

vikhanasArthito vizva guptaye

sakha! udeyivAn sAtvatAM kule "

(Srimad Bhagavatam 10.31.4)

"O dearest Friend, Krishna!

We know that You are not just the Son of the Cowherdess, Mother

Yasodaji, though You appear to be playing that Role.

You are the Supreme Soul of All living beings!

You have descended on the earth due to the ardent prayers of Lord

Brahma, the Cosmic Creator, for the welfare of all living beings and

You have chosen to appear in the particular clan just to purify the

entire race.

Then, O My Lord Beloved! Why are You still hiding from us?"

The Gopis were fully aware that Krishna was not a mere handsome

neighbor of theirs, but He was the Lord Himself, incarnated for the

good of the entire world at the specific request of Lord Brahma. They

clearly avow this knowledge while lamenting Krishna's

disappearance

from their midst.

The Gopikas sing, weeping,

"tava kathA'mrtam tapta jIvanam

kavibhirIditam kalmaSApaham

zravaNa mangalam zrImadAtatam

bhuvi grNamti ye bhUridA janAH"

(Srimad Bhagavatam 10.31.9)

"Lord, hearing Your stories and glories is a Divine Nectar which

would rejuvenate and gladden the hearts of those dying with miseries.

It can annihilate all our Vasanas and sins as reiterated by the wise

ones.

It is only those devotees who are rich with the knowledge of the

Lord's glories that do great acts of charity by disseminating this

knowledge among others".

Jaya Sri Radhey! Namaste all!

Here is a WONDERFUL description from "Srimad Bhagavatham" by Sri VEDA

VYASA Maharshi, the Compiler of Vedas about HOW Lord Krishna WAS

PERCIEVED by DIFFERENT people EVEN during His Own Advent!

'mallAnAmazanir nRNAM naravaraHstrINAM smarO mUrtimAn

gOpAnAM svajanO'satAM kSitibhujAM zAstrA svapitrOH zizuH,

mRtyur bhOja pater virADa dUSAM tattvaM paraM yOginAm

vrSNInAM paradevateti viditO raGgaM gataH sAgrajAH '

Srimad Bhagavatam- 10.43.17

When Lord Krishna, accompanied by His brother Balarama ENTERED the

palace arena of king Kamsa,

HE was percieved DIFFERENTLY by ALL those ASSEMBLED there, ACCORDING

TO THEIR DESERVEDNESS and PURITY of THEIR HEARTS.

The wrestlers saw Him as Thuderbolt.

When they shook hands with Him, and FAILED to bend EVEN a Tender

Finger of His, they DID NOT REALIZE that HE was NONE OTHER THAN the

SUPREME BEING HIMSELF, possessing more strength than COUNTLESS

WRESTLERS put together!

The COMMON people SAW Him as an Active and Intelligent Kid!

The YOUNG maidens, ENRAPTURED by His Divine Beauty, SAW Him as

Kamadeva (god of beauty and love) in Personified Form!

The Gopas, Cowherd boys SAW Him as their DEAR MOST FRIEND!

His Parents affectionately looked at Him as Their Darling Child!

For King Kamsa, HE was the VERITABLE GOD OF DEATH, Yamaraja, in

Fearful Form!

The wicked-minded people saw Him as a Gigantic Person with thousands

of heads, thousands of eyes, thousands of hands, and the flames of

thousands of suns leaping out from His mouth!

They began TREMBLING with FEAR percieving this FORMIDABLE form!

The YOGIS SAW Him as the SUPREME PARAMATMA, the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!

The DEVOTEES of the Yadava clan SAW Him as Their Family Deity!

The SAME SITUATION WAS descibed by Saint Tulsidas in 'Sri Rama Carita

Manas'.

Sri Tulasidas had taken SPECIAL care to REVEAL THIS FACT!

When Lord Ramacandra stood in the palace of King Janaka to lift the

Mighty Bow of Lord Siva,

EVERYONE SAW HIM IN DIFFERENT FORMS ACCORDING TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL

PURITY OF MIND AND HEART !

'jAkI rahI bhAvanA jaisI

prabhu mUrati dekhI tina taisI'

The warriors SAW Him as the very EMBODIMENT of STRENGTH and HEROISM!

The wicked kings TREMBLED at the VERY SIGHT of Him, as they SAW a

TERRIBLE Form!

The demons who were sitting there disguised as princes, BEHELD the

LORD as DEATH in PERSONIFIED Form!

The WISE MEN SAW Him in His Cosmic Form !

To the YOGIS and Saints He SHONE forth as the HIGHEST TRUTH!

The DEVOTEES SAW Him as their BELOVED LORD RAMA, the FOUNTAINHEAD OF

BLISS !!

The EMOTIONS of Mother Sita Devi WERE INDESCRIBABLE !!!

We CAN NEVER PERCIEVE the TRUE DIVINE Form of God or His Rasik Saint

with our DEFECTIVE VISION.

Sri Tulasi das DECLARES in 'Sri Rama Carita Manas'-

'cidAnanda maya dEha tumhArI

vigata vikAra jAna adhikArI '

The DIVINE FORM of Lord or the Saint can NEVER BE SEEN with MATERIAL

EYES!

WE REQUIRE DIVINE VISION TO PERCIEVE HIM !

WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND HIS DIVINITY or His Divine Grace and WE CAN NOT

ATTAIN the DIVINE VISION as yet, because WE DO NOT DESERVE IT !!!
