Guest guest
When you travel by road you come across signposts. These indicate the distance to some town, name of the town, nearest gas station etc. depending on the nature of the signpost. Many a time when I am traveling from Chennai to Kanchipuram, which is 40 miles away, I see signposts, which tell me that it is 600 miles to Kanyakumari. I do not bother about it. It is sometimes irritating. When you are searching for the nearest Gas station, it is irritating to see a signboard that tells you that you are 600 miles from Kanyakumari. The Ultimate Goal in spirituality is aeons away. Only some of us will reach that goal in this birth. We are all travelers in the path. I consider my messages to be like the signpost to the nearest gas station. The messages may irritate the advanced seeker. But as you need signposts for gas stations, I believe you also need messages, which are meant for beginners in the path. We have lot of resources on the web about the different paths. But web pages serve a limited role in that you cannot post your reactions. Clubs/groups are better that way where you can react to a message. There are groups inn which you discuss only a particular path. Fortunately Sadhana group has been discussing all the paths. If you do not like a signpost you can kick it. Signposts may be wrong. Then you get it corrected. But I believe it is illegal in all the countries to remove signposts. I think we also pay off some of our Karmic Debts through the groups. Guest guest
Om Silentsoul "I think we also pay off some of our Karmic Debts through the ." Of course, it is just as easy, perhaps easier, to incur karmic debts with participation in the . It depends what one's attitude is when posting. If ego is present, karmic debts are incurred. If ego is absent, karmic debts are not incurred and some prior debts may be nullified. Given the argumentative nature of many of the posts here, I would say that many are incurring karmic debts that will take a long time to work off. For those who are at the receiving end of these argumentative posts, if you have an ego-based reaction to these flames and diatribes, then you too have incurred karmic debt. As Swami Sivananda has said," Bear insult. Bear Injury. This is the highest sadhana. Bear insult. Bear injury. This is the highest Yoga." To all. Practice Sadhana Chatushtaya, namely Viveka Discrimination between Nitya and Anitya (eternal and non-eternal), Sat and Asat (real and unreal), Tattwa and Atattwa (element and non-element). Vairagya Dispassion, detachment, indifference to sensual enjoyment. The opposite of Raga or attachment. Shadsampat (six-fold virtues) 1. Shama. Serenity of mind through the constant eradication of Vasanas or desires. Don't fulfil desires, reject them through discrimination, right enquiry and dispassion. The mind thins out and is checked from wandering. The mind is detached from the sense-objects by continuously observing their defects and is fixed on Brahman. The five Jnana Indriyas, the sense organs or organs of knowledge-ear, skin, eye, tongue and nose-are controlled through Shama. 2. Dama. Restraint of the external or motor organs (the organs or action or the five Karma Indriyas-speech, hands, feet, genitals and the anus-the external instruments. Corresponds to the the Raja Yoga practice of pratyahara. Indriyas are withdrawn by calming or restraining the mind. Raja Yogis withdraw indriyas by restraining prana. Withdrawal most effective by withdrawing both the mind and the prana. 3. Uparati. Self-withdrawal, extreme abstention, the turning of the mind from objects of enjoyment.. The mind-function ceases to act by means of external objects. No agitation or attraction when one sees a beautiful object due to the strength of mind developed by the practice of viveka, vairagya, shama and dama. Cessation from wrong or unnecessary action. 4. Titiksha. Power of endurance. The ability to bear pain, insult, heat and cold and other extremes free from anxiety or distraction, without care to redress them and without lament. Patience and equanimity during suffering. 5. Sraddha. Unshakable faith in the existence of Brahman, in the teachings of the Guru and scriptures, and faith in own's own self. 6. Samadhana. One-pointedness or collectedness. Samadhi Mumukshutwa Strong yearning for Liberation or Emancipation or Release Om namah Sivaya Omprem , silentsoul_55 <no_reply> wrote: > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > *** > > """I think we also pay off some of our Karmic Debts through the > groups."" > > WELL SAID SANKARUKKU JEE...we certainly are exposed to this net > Maya to learn (or de-learn perhaps) > > tks > , sankarrukku <no_reply> wrote: > > > > When you travel by road you come across signposts. Guest guest
Thanks Sankarukku - I agree with the signposts analogy, well said!! Thanks Omprem for reminding us all again the steps of sadhna chatushtaya - Viveka, Vairagya, Shadsampat, Mumukshutwa. I go a step further to say that all events in our lives, no matter where they appear, offer not only a signpost but also a mirror to our own selves, so as to help us see the issues we need to work with. However the pity is, most of the time anyway, that people point out signposts to others, but fail to take it themselves. _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma PS. Members! Do consider removing the inline attached mails to your replies, to avoid making the posts unecessarily long, unless you feel it is absolutely required to your post. - Thanks ************************************** This is a reply to Post 3449 by Omprem **************************************
