Guest guest
Namaste All, In this message I'll be talking about the deep sleep state, and the 3 kinds of consiousness. Deep sleep state : ------------------- According to medical science, sleep consists of 2 phases - the REM and the NREM. REM corresponds to Rapid Eye Movement and NREM corresponds to non-Rapid Eye Movement. The REM phase , as the name signifies is involved with rapid eye movements. Normally the person dreams during this phase. In NREM phase, the eye movements are minimal, and this corresponds to the deep sleep phase(there's no dreaming in this phase). REM and NREM phases alternate with each other during the entire sleeping phase. In deep sleep there is no dreaming, and there's absutely no sense of an 'i'. One does not even know one exists. It's only on returning to dreaming or waking state, the ego returns and one has the sense of existence. The Three Consciousness : ----------------------------- In the beginning, before all creation, there was just one Consiousness that existed. That Consciousness is called the Primary Conscousness. That One Consciousness had no beginning , nor has any end. It is infinite and eternal. It is beyond all concepts of space and time. That Being just existed, and continued to exist, until a time came when it wanted to feel it's love by it's own self. It wanted to be the giver as well as the recipient. And that's possible only if there's duality. And So He created this Universe, to feel His one self, by his own self. Thus came into existence the infinite beings, to which he gave a sense of existence. This consciousness, which enables the beings to think they exist, and that which comprises the ego is called the secondary consciousness. Each and every secondary Consiousness apparently has it's own identity, and interacts with one another. All these beings (secondary consciousnes), at night go to sleep, and in their dreams assume different personalities, and identities, and this Consiousness is called the Tertiary Consciousness. In essense, The deep sleep is devoid of dreams. The primary consciouness is God or Self. In an attempt to feel its own love, by it's own Self, It created the secondary Consciousness. These secondary consouness, at night, during dream state, exhibit another identity, and that sense of existence is the Tertiary Conscousness. In my next post, we'll see the necessity and significance of dreams. References : 1. Advaita Rahasya 2. Upanishads 3. Teachings of Ramana Maharshi. Hari Aum !!!
