Guest guest
There has been a lot of discussion going on, on Mantras. I remember reading a newsletter from www.indiadivine.com long ago. I'll write below whatever little I remember from that wonderful newsletter. Mantras are basically of 2 types: 1. Veda Mantras 2. Nama Mantras An example of Nama Mantra is "Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare". An example of Veda Mantra is the 'Gayatri Mantra'. Nama Mantras as the name signifies consist of only the Nama of the Lord. These mantras are therefore relatively simple to learn and do not require initiation by a Guru. On the Other hand, Veda mantras like the 'Gayatri Mantra' are derived from the Vedas, and hence should be chanted correctly. It is therefore, mandatory to be initiated by a Guru. Hari Aum !!!
