Guest guest
***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ********************************************************************* SUKSHMA PRANA (SUBTLE PRANA) ============================ The third manfestation of prana is Sukshma prana (sukshma = subtle). It resides near the heart and is said to be covering the ego-centre. From Kundalini there is a continuous flow of two types of energies, the impulse of Gyan (knowledge) as positive incoming energy and the other of Karma (action), a negative outgoing energy. The sukshma prana resonates on this energy and sends pulses of contraction and expansion to the diaphragm, which in turn works on lungs and the breathe is drawn in or out. Besides air, the Prana shakti also enters the body and is divided into other gross forms to help working in the body. The major portion of prana is used in Thoughts and the balance divides into 10 forms and thus body works. The Centre of sukshma Prana near the heart is controlled by sub- conscious and its impulses are decided by it, not by the conscious mind. But this centre is one of the most mysterious places in the body as it can be controlled by conscious-mind too. So by Pranayama we try to take control of this centre consciously from the sub-conscious. There are two major places in body, which are controlled by sub-conscious but can be peeked into by conscious mind. The whole of Yoga is based upon this control. (The other such centre is our eyelids on which a whole science of Trataka is based, about which I will write some day). Thus Pranayama is not keeping the air locked inside lungs….that way all footballs would have reached God by now. Pranayama is snatching control of this centre of Sukshma prana from the sub- conscious to conscious mind. And when the control has been achieved, first the gross prana will come under control, then sukshma prana and finally the universal prana. Here our conscious mind which is separated from sub-conscious mind will merge and change into supra- consciousness, which is the final aim of Yoga. In my next post i will write about some simple and very powerful pranayama, which can be practiced safely without a proper teacher, and which help a lot in our path towards truth.
