Guest guest
The highest energy belongs to consciousness itself. Consciousness contains the power that has created this entire universe and yet is in no way limited or diminished by it. Where there is awareness, energy follows in its appropriate place. Therefore, if we wish to have more energy, we need only to expand the field of our awareness. This is not achieved by having more information about the world but by developing the power of attention. Kundalini or the "serpent power" is a name given to this energy of consciousness that is transformational in nature. Kundalini is said to dwell asleep at the base of the spine and unfolds the ascending powers of consciousness as it awakens and rises through the chakras. While energy follows consciousness, energy can also be used to direct us to consciousness. Stimulating kundalini can help unfold the higher levels of the mind. For this, yogic procedures like mantra and pranayama are employed. Yet such processes must be done with awareness for them to really work. They are meant to assist the process of meditation, which has its own development. To pursue energy, particularly psychic forces like kundalini, without devotion or inquiry into truth, can be dangerous. The subtle energy of the mind is not something to be toyed with or used for purely personal ends. It is not a new sensation, exciting experience or emotional high to be cultivated. Nor can it be developed properly if our emotions are turbulent or if our lifestyle is impure. We must honour the energy of consciousness and make ourselves into the right vessel for it. While certain tools and methods, like breath and mantra, facilitate its unfoldment, they are only gentle aids, not to be used forcefully. For this reason, kundalini was always revered as a Goddess or Divine power not to be manipulated. Acknowledging it as such ensures its right usage. Kundalini is the energy of the sacred, requiring a respect for the sacred in order to really benefit from it. May that Goddess protect us all and lead us all to our highest potential! We should open to her energy and her will and not simply try to manipulate her power, which is infinite, for our limited ends.
