Guest guest
Dear Kathy, I am the one who said that "MEHER BABA has indicated that God never comes in a female body". If you remember, I expressed my ignorence of the logic in His words; but at the same time Meher Baba IS God Avatar(I do have unclinched faith as such), and He could not have been wrong. Now here is the passage i quote:-"After attaining the human form, as a rule there is no reversion to animal forms; cases of retrogression to subhuman forms are special and rare exception. Once the soul has attained human status, the normal course is to go through countless reincarnations in the human form itself. The human form may sometimes be male and sometimes female, according to sanskaras and spititual requirement of the soul. The female form has special prerogative that even Sadgurus and the Avatar have to be born through female form. The male form has the prerogative that majority of Sadgurus appear in male form. Although women can become Saints and Masters, the Avatar always appears in male form."--- Reference, Discourses - Meher Baba,7th edition2000, part 4, page 320,cortcy Sheriyar Press, 3005 Highway 17 North By Pass, Myrtke Beach, South Carolina 29577,USA Kathy I do agree whatever you have quoted and attest to it, but I feel that the conception of an "Avatar" may not be clear to you.If possible kindly read "Avatar" by Jean Andrial (in english). I pray you not to take my words as a retort or assertion of "I am always right", but as words from a person who does not know well and seeks to realise rather than to understand. In my opinion the realm of spirituality is beyond human mind to "understand". Just love God in every one is my sole Sadhna. Guest guest
If we see our Hindu scriptures and Puranas closely, we find that God has indeed taken an Avatar in a female form. There once was a very wicked demon called Mahisha Sura. He obtained various boons that he considered to be equivalent to immortality from Brahma, the Creator. Having obtained these boons, his pride and ego grew and grew and knew no bounds. He conquered all the 3 worlds, the 7 seas and everything that exists in this cosmos. He tortured all the celestial beings (devas), and ruthlessly killed the sages and saints who read the Vedas. Thus Dharma or righteousness started declining on this earth, and Adharma or Injustice grew stronger day by day. Unable to bear the torture of the wicked demom Mahisha Sura, the celestial beings (devas), the Rishis, and all the living beings of the 3 worlds prayed to Adi-ParaShakthi or the Divine Mother to redeem them from their pitiable plight. Relenting to their prayers, She took the Avatar of "Mahisha Sura Mardini". She fought a fierce battle with the wicked demon for 9 days, and on the 10th day her victory was celebrated. These 9 days when good won over evil are celebrated as 'Navarathiri' or 'Dusshera'. Lord Narayana Himself has assumed a female Avatar, known as Mohini Avatar. Mohini is one of the 24 Avatars of Vishnu, of which 10 are considered very important and are called the 'Dasa Avatar'. Lord Narayana took the Mohini Avatar under 2 circumstances that I know of : 1. To protect the 'Amrit' (Divine Ambrosia of Immortality) from the wicked Asuras or demons and to distribute it to the devas. 2. Lord Shiva w/o a second thought gave a boon to Basmasura that on whose ever head Basmasura places his hand, will become ashes the next second. On acquiring hte boon, Basmasura decided to test it on Shiva himself, and Shiva sought Lord Vishnu's help. Vishnu then took the Mohini Avatar, and killed the evil minded Basmasura. There are many more female Avatars that God assumed to kill the wicked demons, and they can be found in our Puranas. Apart from taking Avatars in female form, he also took Avatars in animal forms, namely the Varaha Avatar (boar), Matsya Avatar (fish), Kurma Avatar (tortoise) and Narasimha Avatar (half lion half man). This is to show that He pervades all and is all. It is we the ignorant who see the differences in morphology and give names like man, woman, animal, beast, fish etc. But He is the 'ONE', and transcends all constraints of morphology, chemistry, physics, physiology etc. Our goal should not be confine ourselves to these limitations of morphology and see who's superior or inferior, but to transcend all barriers and reach 'Liberation', for God is genderless and formless. I remember Karunamayi saying at one of Her darshans that as long as we lead good lives, we do not have to worry about future lifetimes as forms other than human. But the insinuation was there, I believe, that if someone is bad/very bad/wicked, it may be otherwise. > The human form may sometimes be male and sometimes female, according > to sanskaras and spititual requirement of the soul. The female form > has special prerogative that even Sadgurus and the Avatar have to be > born through female form. Did he ever state his definition or understanding of it??? Perhaps it means a special function of sorts...maybe that is, but when someone says God only comes in male bodies, that sounds totally ludicrous to me! > Reference, Discourses - Meher Baba,7th edition2000, part 4, page > 320,cortcy Sheriyar Press, 3005 Highway 17 North By Pass, Myrtke > Beach, South Carolina 29577,USA > Do you know, Satish, is this book still in print, and where I can get a copy of it?
