Power of the Mind

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whatever the external influences, each man shapes his
own destiny by the way he reacts to them. Swami
Vivekananda illustrates the result of various
influences on the human mind through the example of
pearls.
A grain of sand enters the shell of a pearl oyester
and causes irritation at the site. The oyester's body
reacts to the irritation and covers the little
particle with its own secretion which crystallises
into a pearl.
The whole universe is like that. What we get from the
external world is simply the blow. To be concious of
that blow we need to react, and as soon as we react,
we project a portion of our mind towards the blow. The
extent and nature of the projection of the mind
determines the consequences. Therefore, when we
command and control the mind, we control the external
world.
