Q: I am aware of the 'I'. Yet my troubles are not ended.

A: This 'I'-thought is not pure. It is contaminated with the

association of the

body and senses. See to whom the trouble is. It is to the 'I'-

thought. Hold it.

Then the other thoughts vanish.

Q: Yes. How to do it? That is the whole trouble.

A: Think 'I, I', and hold to that one thought to the exclusion of

all others.

Q: Is not affirmation of God more effective than the quest, 'Who am

I?'

Affirmation is positive, whereas the other is negation. Moreover,

it indicates

separateness.

A: So long as you seek to know how to realise, this advice is given

to find your

Self. Your seeking the method denotes your separateness.

Q: Is it not better to say 'I am the Supreme Being' than ask 'Who am

I?'

A: Who affirms? There must be one to do it. Find that one.

Q: Is not meditation better than investigation?

A: Meditation implies mental imagery, whereas investigation is for

the reality.

The former is objective, whereas the latter is subjective.

Q: There must be a scientific approach to this subject.

A: To eschew unreality and seek the reality is scientific.

Q: I mean there must a gradual elimination, first of the mind, then of

the intellect, then of the ego.

A: The Self alone is real. All others are unreal. The mind and

intellect

do not remain apart from you. The Bible says, 'Be still and know

that

I am God.' Stillness is the sole requisite for the realisation of

the

Self as God.

Jaya Sri Radhey! Namaste.

There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for

tilling his fields.

One day, the horse escaped into the hills and when all the farmer's

neighbours sympathized with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer

replied,

"BAD LUCK ?

GOOD LUCK ?

WHO KNOWS ?"

A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the

hills and this time, the neighbours congratulated the farmer on his

good luck. His reply was,

"GOOD LUCK ?

BAD LUCK ?

WHO KNOWS ?"

Then when the farmer's son was attempting to tame one of the wild

horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg.

Everyone thought this very bad luck.

Not the farmer, whose only reaction was,

"BAD LUCK ?

GOOD LUCK ?

WHO KNOWS ?"

Some weeks later, the Army marched into the village and conscripted

every able bodied youth they found there.

When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg, they left him

off.

Now was that GOOD LUCK ?

BAD LUCK ?

WHO KNOWS ?

Everything that SEEMS ON THE SURFACE TO BE EVIL MAY BE GOOD IN

DISGUISE !!

And EVERYTHING THAT SEEMS GOOD ON THE SURFACE MAY REALLY BE AN

EVIL !!

"SO WE ARE WISE WHEN WE STOP JUDGING THINGS."
