>>-- why ladies wear bangles (glass or gold) - significance and any

scientific reasons?<<

Bangles do have a scientific reason behind it. The design of bangles

are such that they move only 2/3rd of the peripheral half of the

hand. This is a form of accupressure. This is the reason, why even

men were supposed to wear a different kind of bangles suited for

men's use. But with time, as India was subjected to various

invasions, there was a decay of our customs, and now not many even

know of men's jewellery save for the movies, where one can see the

kings and princes wearing jewelery.

Not just bangles, but every ornament recommended to be worn are forms

of acupressure and acupuncture ( eg ear rings / nose rings), that are

worn in specific spots that correspond to the energy regions and acu

spots on our body, thereby keeping our body hale and healthy.

-- why women wear the kumkum on forehead?

The Goddess of Prosperity, Mahalakshmi is believed to reside in 5

places, and one of them is the forehead of married women. Kumkum is

worn to pay due respects to Mahalakshmi.

If you are talking of the regular bindi worn, then it's significance

is protection of the Ajna Chakra, for that is the most vulnerable

part. Moreover, a liquid is what is normally used to put bindi, as

the liquid dries up, it pulls the skin underneath, and this is

another form of acupressure.

This region over the Ajna Chakra is very important, b'cos this is

where all the 75,000 nadis ( subtle nerves) meet.

-- why is mango leaves used for 'torana' to the front door?

'Torana' of mango leaves is hung to ward of evil spirits.

-- why is banana stem/leaves used to decorate during functions?

Banana is the kind of plant that gives out a whole bunch of flowers (

seepu), and bananas, unlike any other kind of plants. Other plants do

not give out bunches so much in number like bananas. They do give

many fruits, but the fruits are isolatory, attached to the stem,

unlike bananas, where hundreds are attached to ONE stem. This

signifies properity and fertility. The banana stem/leaves are used,

so our lives too may become prosperous, as a result of the function.

-- what is the significance of fire rituals?

Normally, when we need to deliver something to our friend , we

deliver by going to their house personally. If the friend lives far

away, in another town / country, then we use some kind of parcel /

courier service, as we do not have access to our friend's place.

Similarly, during sacrifices, we consign many things to the flame,

because Agni (fire) is the messenger for the gods. When we consign to

the flame, and say the corresponding 'mantra', he delivers them to

the respective God(dess)

-- what is the significance of uttering 'mantras' and shlokas?

Whether one is chanting the 'veda mantra' or the 'nama mantra', by

constant sadhna, one acheives the folowing benefits :

1. Chittha Suddhi i.e. cleansing of the mind

2. increasing the power of the mind

3. expiation of one's past sins

4. Fruition of one's desires/ petition that one puts forth to God

5. Eventual Liberation / Moksha

HTH,

Hari Aum !!!
