You can change anyone with Divine Love

The following is a story that illustrates how we can influence and

change even offensive people by showering 'Divine Love'.

 

There was once a yogi who lived near a temple. He bathed in the

temple tank, and ate the food that people brought to him. All day

long he was engaged in contemplation of the Lord, and in doing

service unto HIM and His devotees.

 

One day, as he finished his bath in the temple tank and came out, a

man who was waiting for him on the ground, spat on him. Since the

yogi has to be clean to proceed to do the puja in the temple, he went

back to the tank to take bath once again. When he came out after his

2nd bath, the man who was wiating spat again on him. Without chiding

the man, the yogi went back to the tank and took another bath. As he

came out the man again spat on him. This happened 108 times.

 

After the yogi finished his 108th bath, the man realised his mistake,

bowed to the yogi and said, ' Forgive me, o holy One. I have spat on

you 108 times, yet without uttering even one word in anger, you

silently and maintaining your air of peace, went back to take bath. I

realise Thy greatness now O Holy One. Please Forgive This lowly

birth."

 

The yogi, replied, "I should thank you my son, for it's only b'cos of

you that I had a chance to wash myself 108 times. How Blessed am I,

and the Mercy of the Lord, that He chose me to take 108 baths before

today's puja?". So saying he folded his hands to the man.

 

Hearing these kind words, the man shed tears and said, "O Holy One,

Thy Greatness is so evident by your humbleness. Actually I didn't

want to spit on you. But the rich man in town was jealous at your

rising popularity. He decided to show the people of the town that

Thou Art NOT actually Holy. In order to prove this, he hired me to

spit on you after your bath. He instructed me to spit on you

continuously till you lose your patience and scream at me. It would

then be proved that you are not holy. The rich man promised me a gold

coin if I agreed to this and proved you unholy. Which is why I

agreed. Forgive me Swami."

 

The yogi replied, ' Oh dear son. It is you who have to forgive me. I

did not know that you would get a gold coin had I screamed at you.

Now b'cos of me you lost your chance to get a gold coin. Couldn't you

have informed me earlier, so I would have helped you get your gold

goin. Forgive me my son for ruining your chances to get a gold coin.'

 

The man now started crying profusely and said, "Oh Swami, how

selfless you are. Listening to the ill words of the rich man, I erred

today. Now I realise your greateness Swami. Please accept me as your

disciple. I desire nothing in the world other than you Swami." Saying

thus he prostrated on the yogi's feet.

 

Thus by showering Divine Love, you can change the heart of even an

evil minded person.
