Guest guest
Salutations to Thakur, Guru, and Ma! Swami Turiyananda--"In the Gita we have, 'They speak of an eternal Ashwattha tree rooted above and branching below, whose leaves are the Vedas; he who knows It is a Knower of the Vedas.' You see, there is no mention of Brahman. How then can a man be a Knower of the Vedas by simply knowing relative existence ? Well, let us see. 'Rooted above' means emanating from the Paramatman, and 'Ashwattha' means that which will not last until tomorrow, relative existence, transitory. So the meaning of the verse comes to this : 'One who has known relative existence to be such---that is, has understood its transitoriness---is a Knower of the Vedas.' One must have dispassionateness to cut off the tree of relative existence. In the life of everyone there comes satiety after a prolonged enjoyment of sense-objects. If at that time one happens to come in contact with a saint, one advances towards the goal."
