As far as I know there are in India three categories of food: sakahara, anahara,

and phalahara. People of one of these groups abstain from eating grain.

Are there also people who eat only raw fruit and vegetables but no cooked

things? Do these people then drink milk?

Namaste Alexandra,

I do not know too much with all that jargon. But to what I know, yes

there are people who eat only raw fruits and vegetables and abstain

eating cooked food. There are also some Swamis who take only air as

food. One such Swami was Ramalinga Swamigal who lived in the 19th

century. He had only air as food. When he got tired, he used to take

some sugar water. That is all he used to eat.

Regarding drinking milk, it again depends on what the people who fall

in each category wish to follow. There is no hard an fast rule that

one must follow this or that.

Thanks,

svcs
