Guest guest
Namaste. There are actually two 40 day disciplines.. The Mantra Discipline that Syji described as well as the rudraksha discipline. It is suggested that when a person is introduced to rudraksha for the first time that they wear what ever bead (s) they are drawn to continuously for 40 days. Upon which time most individuals will find that significant changes have occured in varied ways in their life. It also allows a "bonding" to take place between the person and rudraksha..like a seal taking place in the electro-magnetic fields of wearer and beads. Some people also use this same discipline with gem malas as well. Thank you and welcome. Guest guest
Namaste Minibca, The book "Healing Mantras" by Thomas Ashely-Farrand describes the 40- day sadhana. It says that a time of 40 days is the time given for practicing mantra in Eastern texts. Quote from a couple of paragraphs: "In addition to saying your mantra as often as possible, you should set a specific place where you will practice your spiritual discipline twice everyday." "Time of day: Set your practice at the same time everyday. It is recommended that you perform your practice in the morning upon rising and in the evening before bed. Traditionally, spiritual disciplines are performed at "the meeting of the day and the night", or sadhya in Sanskrit. This is a period lasting from 2 hours before dawn until dawn, and 2 hours before sunset until sunset. At the time, the Eastern scriptures teach, there is great spiritual energy streaming across the earth. While any time is appropriate for practicing mantras, the periods just before dawn and dusk are reported to be esepcially good." Got to add that ashrams in India observe the hours as mentioned above. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Namaste Kantiji, Does 40 days continuously mean wearing it overnight as well for 40 days? As i feel this may be a bit rough for some. Any alternatives to this? Shanti, Ashy. - <thunderheals <> Friday, April 11, 2003 9:42 AM Re: sadhana > Namaste. > There are actually two 40 day disciplines.. > The Mantra Discipline that Syji described as well as the rudraksha > discipline. > > It is suggested that when a person is introduced to rudraksha for the first > time that they wear what ever bead (s) they are drawn to continuously for 40 > days. Guest guest
Namaste. Wearing overnight is really a matter of person preference and as you mention, practicality. Some malas are too large to sleep in comfortably. Some people may also feel that the quality of certain rudrakshas is energizing and may keep them awake. An alternative is to have a choker made of 5mukhi or 5 mukhi and sphatik. A small, sphatik mala made of small beads is also good. Also some wrist malas are comfortable for sleep. My main rudraksha is 9 mukhi and I have a lovely mala I wear mostly for sleeping that is is one 9 rudraksha bead worn on a small strand of sphatik. Bottom of rudraksha fits right over heart so is most comfortable for sleep. They shouldn't be worn in the shower either as that will dry them out. If that happens accidently simply "massage" beads in sandalwood oil. Take care. Guest guest
What is Sadhana? An earnest effort, put forth to attain an attainable object, is Sadhana. For a spiritual seeker of Truth that object is Truth, Self, God or any such synonym of that Reality. Some excerpts from the Divine Flower: ` You are born as human beings. As such, it is your first duty to perform the Sadhana. Righteous speech, smile and gratefulness are the three corner-stones of your spiritual progress. If you want to realize this, you should become sincere spiritual aspirants. ` Sadhana is that work which you perform in order to please God. Only human beings can perform Sadhana. Sadhana becomes fruitful by righteous speech, smile and gratefulness. Sadhana leads to incessant showers of tears. God remains silent. He acts as if He were inert. ` Don't eat anything between your snacks, lunch and dinner! This is the true meaning of fasting (upavasa) - in this age! Do you know how much grace is showered by God for this kind of small discipline? ` You should keep talking to God with love born out of blessedness to see that God does not relax. ` Getting the tears of blessedness is truly a great Sadhana. ` Sadhana becomes shodhana when you experience God upon this earth. ` If God becomes your guide, you will feel wonderful relaxation.
