Guest guest
Namaste Anju, In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna tells us that we should do our duty and do what is right simply for its own sake. We should preform these actions out of love itself and leave the fruits of the actions to Him. I do not think it is 'wrong' to want to help your fellow man. In fact, I think it is quite noble! However, we must take a look at our own motivations and intentions behind these actions. Our intent really directs whether the action we are taking is right action. As a friend of mine once pointed out, if a surgeon is doing a surgery in hopes of saving someone's life, and cuts into the person's body to remove a tumor, but the patient ends up dying on the table because of these actions, the doctor's intent was not to kill the patient. Quite the contrary! However, if a theif takes a knife and stabs someone with the intent to kill him/her, it is not 'right' intent. Even though the instruments and actions were similar on some level, the intent is what changes the actions and thus the resulting karmic debt. It's so difficult for us to refocus on our actions and intentions only, but in my opinion, it is also very necessary. Hope that helps, at least a little bit...
