Guest guest
In continuation of my post 5411, no matter which story we look at, the essence of each Pauranic story always seems to be explained with the Symbolic meaning behind the literal one. This shows the importance of Symbolism in our religion, without which the stories would appear pretty bizzare. Even if we look at the war stories, how so and so God killed so and so Asura, if we were to simply look at the words, these stories are pretty gory, and not very attractive to those who don't like gory war stories. I guess it is supposed to instill fear of doing wrong, and faith in the appropriate God/Godess. However, it stil remains a mystery, whether the members of our Pauranic family were real and their lives were glorified and made into these stories, or the whole thing is a figment of imagination of sages of yore, who made them up simply to teach abstract spiritual lessons in terms more understandable to ordinary people of thier time. Personally, as far as sadhna goes, what remains important is whether the lesson that is intended to be learnt from these stories is actually being learnt, or it is all creating divided, possessive groups of people where the tool becomes the goal and meaning is all lost! _/\_ Tat twam asi Uma
