Dear Respected Ajitsingh Ji:

You Said:

>>>>>

After arriving here and discussing with my Hindu friends, i got some

idea as to why Hindus are mocked at and insulted by others. Still can

anybody enlighten me?

<<<<<<<<<<

Can you please enlighten us, what your Hindu Friends told you? Along

with your own thoughts ??

I believe that you are a Sikh, and that makes you a barer of Indian

cultural staff.

You further said:

>>>>>>

I always wondered why American always insulted Hindus like this. Why

they never do such things with holy symbols of Christians, or Muslims.

<<<<<<<<

It is not just the Americans who abuse "Hindu ICONS" !!! Indians are

no exceptions.

Ganesh BIDI, Shankar BIDI. Are sole in India and Exported to US as

well? How about, ShriRam Videshi Wine Emporium? Or Undergarments from

Gajaana Mills ??? How come none of Hindu's take an offence to it?

If we do not care for ourselves, then why other Nationals should

respect it??

One will need to do some soul searching before joining the band-

wagon, because charity begins at home.

Once objections have been raised they (Foreign Nationals) will stop

such practices, however, who is watching the chicken fence at HOME?

You concern was answered by Justice Warren Burger (US Supreme

Court): "If you ask the question who is responsible?; the answer must

be I am, You are and we are ...... " (Inaugural speech Justice Warren

Burger, 1984).

Regards,

Dr. Yadu

Yes, I totally agree with Dr. Yadu.

In fact, specifically with respect to the book in question, it was

written 18 years ago, and it is being reprinted by non other than

the respectable Indian publisher Motilal Banarsidass who chose to

put the naked Ganesha picture on the cover!

As to the author of the book, the professor Paul Courtright, is

director of the Asian Studies Program at Emory University, and had

recently denounced the Southern Baptist's virulently anti-Hindu

prayer book. He has a Ph D from Princeton University, and the author

of Ganesha: Lord of Obstacles, Lord of Beginnings (Oxford University

Press, 1989), and co-editor and contributor of From the Margins of

Hindu Marriage (Oxford University Press, 1994). The US edition of

the book has a Dancing Ganesh!!!!!!!!

As it has been said, everytime a piece of academic research material

is presented, whether it is palatable to believers or not, they

cannot take permission from 1 billion Hindus! Hindus on their part

have the total freedom, to produce their own research, use academic

tools to present counter arguments and discredit the study. In this

particular case where the author had used Freudian Psychoanalysis to

explain some of the events surounding Ganesha, it should not be

difficult to provide counter-arguments since many aspects of

Freudian theory has been discredited a long time ago! While a Hindu

may avoid addressing controversial issues and looking at themselves

analytically, they cannot stop research in the field.

Has anyone read Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown? Do you think all

Christians are very happy about that book's insinuations, even

though it is presented as a novel?

Do we as Hindus take responsibility for cleaning up our own house?

We treat our poor and lower castes like dirt, and then wonder why

others come and convert them and continue to treat them badly! Every

day there is a story in the news about mistreatment of our women,

including female infanticide .. how many petitions are taken up on

that and followed up to stop it? How many of us came together to

denounce the butchery that took place in Gujarat in the name of

Revenge! Personally I did and our numbers were small compared to our

total strength. We can go on and on about the multitudes of issues

(social or pseudo-religious) that we choose to turn our backs on,

and then we wonder why someone else mocks us?

We make a mockery of ourselves with our own collective behavior

disrespecting ourselves, we don't need anyone else to do it for us!

Its time for more people to stop and think, and do whatever it takes

to LIVE the teachings of our great Gurus/Avatars/Devas/Devis, not

just quote, analyse, paraphrase, and re-paraphrase the paraphrase,

parse, and regurgititate, and indulge in sycophancy to those who do

so!

Thank goodness there still is a small crop of teachers/Gurus who are

focused on doing just that!
