Atmanyevatmanaa tushtah stithaprajnastsdocyate.

Bhagavad Gita II – 55

O, Partha! When a man discords all his desires – which come,

appear, - visiting the mind – and is self-satisfied in his own self,

he is said to be stable in wisdom.

Some comments from students of fpyk:-

Master ji and Lakshmi are both very lovely people. The asana room

is bright and clean. The adjustments in asana are very firm and

helpful although I would like to learn more adjustment myself. The

food is delicious.

Pranayama is wonderful and very useful.

Mantra is also very good.

I am very glad to have this very Indian experience.

---------- Joanna Walter from UK

I am very pleased with the holistic approach this school provides.

Our health, well-being and happiness is also catered for.

The course is well thought out and offers a breadth of learning.

Satsang is very interesting and challenges our mind.

The structure of the classes entices the student to observe

discipline in ourselves.

The family is very open and giving and invite us to share a rare

insight into the daily lives of Indian folk.

The whole package including asana, pranayama, mantra, meals and

accommodation being provided in one place means I can really focus

all of my energy on yoga practice.

Since arriving, I feel challenged both physically and mentally. ------

Michelle Green from Australia

I have just finished my first month. I was quite a beginner and had

not practiced ASHTANGA yoga before I came here. It is quite good and

useful to be in a small class as we get more individual attention and

Master ji ahd his wife Lakshmi ae very hospitable and welcoming.

There is a very relaxed atmosphere around the place which helps me

feel at home. ------------- Brian from Ireland

I like a lot the way asana teaching is. I think I have learned a

lot. Also, I feel, pranayama is complete. With the practice, I

started to like reciting mantras 108 times. I will like to learn an

introduction to meditation, because I think that is very important

part of yoga practice. I enjoy to have more time to learn

adjustments. I enjoy a lot the way we have been made to feel like a

part of the family. I really appreciate that. I like the family

style. The food is fantastic. --------------Anna Adoue from Mexico

DEEPAVALI

Deepavali is the festivals of lights, special event to Hindus.

Deepavali also known as Diwali is observed all over India.

Deepavali – the row of lights.

Deepavali festival is a great unifying force.

Generally, the people observe Deepavali festival for three days.

Day I :- NARAKA CHATURDASHI

Chaturdashi is the fourteenth day of the lunar fortnight of Hindu

calender.

According to Hindu mythology, the king of Pragjyothishapura -

Kamarupa or Assam of the present India, Narakasura observed a great

tapas and got a boon form the creator, Brahma. Then, Narakasura waged

war against others rulers and took away their kingdom, women,

precious things and belongings.

The people could not bear the torture and trouble of Narakasura and

sought the help of Lord Krishna. They prayed Him to free them from

the hell of Narakasura who had kept all of them in darkness.. Krishna

killed Narakasura and freed the people from his troubles. To

celebrate this freedom, people observe the festival of lights.

Naraka means darkness, ignorance, trouble. Lighting the lamp

signifies the liberation from this darkness, enlightenment from

ignorance. People light lamps and fire crackers to express their

happiness. air their freedom ; forget and forgive the wrongs done by

others; show their friendliness.

Thus, the festival of lights, Deepavali, Diwali is celebrated

differently among the Hindus.

North Indians In Uttar Preadesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh

celebrate Deepavali as Rama's home-coming.

South Indians celebrate the destruction of Narakasura by Lord Krishna.

For Gujarathis it is Mahakalakshmi puja.

Bengalis and people from Assam, Bihar, Orissa worship Mother Kali.

Jains celebrate Deepavali as the day of NIRVANA - liberation from

samsara, the cycle of birth and death, of MAHAVIRA, the 24th

Thirthankara

Deepavali is a special festival for Sikh people who celebrate the

Bandhi Chor- the release of the Bound during the festival.

Day II LAKSHMI PUJA

The second day of Deepavali festival falls on the New Moon day. New

moon day symbolizes the utter darkness. This darkness is removed by

the light.

On the evening of this New moon day, Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of

purity, wealth and prosperity is exclusively worshipped. The

merchants decorate their establishments and perform Lakshmi puja,

there. They invite their relatives, friends and well-wishers and

offer them sweet and share their good-will.

This day is remembered as the anniversary of the meeting of Lakshmi

and Vishnu.

Bengalis worship Mahakali on this day.

Day III BALI PUJA

King Bali was known for his charities. King Bali had earned a name as

a great donor; giver of anything asked for. Yet, he was a great

devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Once, King Bali was performing a sacrifice, of course with a sense of

ego. During the sacrifice, the person who does the sacrifice is

supposed to give a lot of gifts - DANA. Lord Vishnu came to the

place of the sacrifice in the form of a short- statured Brahmin,

called by name Vamana and asked King Bali for a space of land which

would of his (Vamana's) three feet in area. Bali got surprised at

this request but agreed to give. Vamana, the God-incarnation of Lord

Vishnu, covered the entire world with one foot and the space with the

another foot. Then, He asked King Bali for the place to keep His

third foot. King Bali got enlightened and understood that the person

who came asking for three feet of land-space is none other than his

great lord Vishnu. He asked Lord Vishnu who came in the form of

Vamana to keep the third leg on his head. Vamana pushed King Bali to

the underworld. Appreciating the devotion of King Bali, the God

permitted King Bali to ask for a boon. King Bali prayed the God to

allow him to see his kingdom three days every year and keep the

house of the people prosperous when they light their house on these

three days. God blessed King Bali in that way.

Some people observe the third day of Deepavali as the day of

Goverdhana puja day. It is a New year's day for many.

So, people celebrate Deepavali every year for three days for

prosperity , happiness and well-being of the mankind.

Our Prayer to Lord Krishna the remover of darkness; our prayer to

Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of purity and wealth and to King Bali

who has enlightened the people with the rich values of sacrifice.

WISH YOU A HAPPY DEPAVALI. APROSPEROUS, HAPPY AND CHEERFUL LIFE.
