Desire for Moksha

Very good response indeed. I may add one more point, which has already been

discussed to some extent in response to Sardar Ajit Singh ji's earlier question

on desire, that is, desire for Moksha is essential, it is not automatic. Only

humans can desire for Moksha because they have the ability for discrimination

and dispassion, an essential qualification for the purpose, animals cannot

desire for Moksha because they have no such qualifications and also they are

strictly under the control of Prakrty. It is not to say that will never qualify

for Moksha, we are only talking about their present status in an animal body. As

for Devas are concerned, they never desired for Moksha, they must have had

performed some Vedic rituals and disciplines to enjoy life hereafter, which they

got as they wished.

Mukti is of two types:

1. Sadyo Mukti - immediate liberation and

2. Krama Mukti - gradual liberation.

1. One had enough of this earthly existence and did not care for the heavenly

treats, follows certain Vedic rules and disciplines, gets in tune with the Self

while living in this body and upon leaving this body his subtle and causal

bodies are also burnt up and such a great soul merges into the Self immediately.

2. One desires to enjoy life in Brahma Loka or Krishna Loka, he follows another

set of rules and disciplines and upon leaving the body goes to Brahma Loka,

enjoys the heavenly treats and gets Moksha along with Brahma, when the latter's

term ends, or eternally enjoys the past-times and Lilas of Krishna in His

Eternal Abode.
