Salutation to the god SUN, who is the eyes of the world, the cause of the birth, sustenance and the death; the essence of the Vedas and three gunas and who is nothing but Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. The New year's day is over. You must have celebrated the New Year in a great style; wished people; renewed contacts with the forgotten and greeted everyone. New year's celebration is to keep faith in the future and hope for the good. People make resolution for the new year, wish their friends and relatives renewing the contacts. Let us wish that every one makes a resolution to PRACTICE YOGA THROUGH OUT THE YEAR AND INFLUENCE THE FRIENDS AND RELATIVES TOO TO DO THE SAME. New year's day is an occasion to remember the good things; to meet the dear and the near as well as others too. Meeting the people and eating together are the two GREATWAYS to live happily. The month of January is an active period for the people of Bharat (India). On 7th January, Pushya Pournima, full moon day, ANDHAKASURA VADHA, the destruction of the demon of ignorance was observed by worshiping Lord Siva, Mahakala. On 15th January this year, here in this Bharat people celebrate 'UTTARAYANA PUNYAKALA', the significance being the entering the house of Capricorn by the Sun. From this day onwards the Sun starts its northwrd movement. This being an auspicious day for the Hindus, millions of people go to the river near their place and take a holy dip. Some go to the sea for a special bath in the sea. This day is also known as Makara Sankranthi. Makara means Capricorn. Pongal, Bhogi, Suggi, Lohri are some others names of this festival day. For rural people, this is an important festival and they celebrate this day as the harvest day. Prayer to the Sun for the health and enlightenment by doing Surya namaskar is one of the rituals observed by the people. MILL SIVARAMIAH FOUNDATION and its associated units, Foundation of Pathanjala Yoga Kendra, Shofar of Moses. Mill Sivaramaiah School of Performing Arts pray the Lord Sun for the health and prosperity of the entire humanity and the living beings in this universe. *** BOOK RELEASED:- One of the students of Foundation of Pathanjala Yoga Kendra, Sujatha, Ph.D. has released her book titled 'A Memory of Munna.' Mother is the most precious person in everybody's life. Mother is the source of life and the fountain of joy. The relationship between the mother and the child is the purest, natural and sublime. The Veda says," Mother is heaven. She is the builder; a happy shelter. From evil, suffering and incapacity, the mother leads her children to joy and gives them the strength." In her book, Sujatha writes about her mother. It is an interesting book to read. Narrating about her mother who was suffering from chronic myeloid leukaemia, Sujatha, along with other writers, has produced a beautiful book which gives strength and hope to the people and inspires those who are living in a similar condition of beloved mother Munna of Sujatha and Arvind and to accept their condition and live smiling with happy memories. *** Brian Gilligan of Ireland completed his three months teacher's course. Sang Bae of South Korea completed her yoga training. Rodriguez Laura of Argentina, Suzanne La'Febour of Denmark and Melissa Berkovi of Britain have joined the yoga classes at FPYK. *** The old students of FPYK have started coming back again to practice under the guidance of the Master ji to refresh themselves. *** GOOD NEWS FOR THE STUDENTS:- Some of the students who want to attend yoga course at FPYK have expressed their desire to stay away by themselves and are asking whether they can find a place to stay. FPYK is very open to this desire of the students and will try to assist them in a suitable way to stay by themselves. We are requesting the house-owners to accommodate our students. A few houses/rooms will be available by March 2004. Those who want this type of accommodation should come here and meet the owner by themselves to finalise the price of the place and the conditions by themselves. A mile away from our yogashala, there is an Aurobindo complex which has a few rooms available on daily basis and the cost of the room per day is around US$6=00 per day. Even if you stay for more days, this place will not give any discounts in the price. One can stay in this place, reasonably, for a long period . so, if there is no place to stay at FPYK student's house, you have a choice now to live and take yoga classes at FPYK. >From now onwards, the students of teachers' course have the option of the residence. *** WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY:- There are so many things in Master ji's yogashala, especially for those who want to become yoga teachers and those who are already teaching, like herbal and ayurvedic information which are very useful to the yoga students and teachers. In Master ji's class it is not mere jumping or twisting the body but something more and total which makes every one better informed. Satsang is interesting and challenging. --- Suzanne Le'Fabour, Denmark. Master jI's class is something unique. Makes every body practice and to go to the higher level, not only in yoga but even in their profession. Better thinking and focussed mind are the the outcome of his class. There is a very good motivation to practice. --- Gururaj, Boston Ma, US *** MILL SIVARAMAIAH FOUNDATION invites sponsors for the various activities of the Foundation in 2004 and onwards. FOUNDATION OF PATHANJALA YOGA KEDRA will be supporting two yogasana competitions in January and February 2004.
