A 'pada' from Siddhanta Madhuri of 'Prema Rasa Madira'

by Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj says:

"O Mind! Please give up now, the mirage of worldly desires and hopes!"

"chod mana! jaga mrigajala kee aasa,

mriga-jala piyata amita-yuga beete, tavoo bujhee nahi pyaasa,

santana caraNa-sharaNa nahi aayo, jahan surasari ko baasa,

indriya-viShTA-viShaya naraka mahan, kiyo basa bani daasa,

deena-bhaava, niShkaama shyaama bhaju, kari sadguru vishvaasa,

tehi binu mana 'kripaalu' gahi boondana, caahata caDhana aakaashaa."

The Rasik Saint instructs the 'mind' of Sadhak since it is declared in

Scriptures that mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.

"O ignorant mind!

You have spent uncountable lifetimes in the pursuit of happiness, by

running after trivial, flickering pleasures of the world, like the

thirsty person running after a mirage!

Yet, your thirst for the everlasting happiness is not quenched.

Please give up the hope for enjoying Divine Bliss through chasing

after the 'mirages' of illusory material pleasures.

There is only temporary sense gratification in these worldly

enjoyments.

No Spiritual joy can be attained by your constant indulgence in the

material subjects as well as the objects that gratify the desires of

your five sense organs.

Why do you keep on roaming like a dumb animal, insisting on deriving

happiness from the hell of worldly excreta!

O restless mind!

Haven't you spend enough time of innumerable births seeking the same

objects and subjects of sense gratification?

O fallen mind!

Please realize that you are wasting this precious human life also

without taking the shelter of God-realized Rasik Saints, whose feet

are the sacred residence of ever purifying holy waters like Ganges.

All your accumulated sins of past lives can be washed off (redeemed)

through surrendering to the lotus feet of such 'Mahatmas' - Great

Souls.

O fortunate mind!

Listen to my friendly advice with attention.

Realizing your past mistakes, please develop complete, unflinching

faith in SAD-GURU, your Spiritual Guide and eternal Companion, humbly

surrender yourself to His lousfeet and implore His Divine Grace.

Purging out all the material hankerings for transient pleasures,

shedding selfless tears with feelings of humility, always sing the

Divine Names of Beloved Lord Shyamasundar and attain the goal of

humanlife- Prema Bhakti, Divine Love.

Submerge your soul in Divine Bliss forever."

In the last line, the Saint-Poet, Sri Kripaluji declares that there is

NO other way to quench the thirst for eternal happiness.

All other methods of God-realization are simply as foolish and useless

as climbing up to the sky holding on to the falling raindrops !!

Jaya Sri Radhey!

The Prema-Rasika-Acarya, Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj is

instructing the minds of sincere souls on the path of Bhakti Yoga

in this 'pada' from 'Prema-Rasa-Madira" (Wine of Divine Love):

"arey mana! tu mero mata maan, (1)"

"O my dear fortunate soul! Please realize in your MIND the important

principles of Prema Bhakti Sadhana and listen to my kind words!

"'ananya cetaah satataM yo maaM..' guna yehi geetaa jnaan, (2)"

Lord Krishna has declared in Gita -

ananya-cetAH satataM

yo mAM smarati nityazaH

tasyAhaM sulabhaH pArtha

nitya-yuktasya yoginaH

Gita 8.14

- "For one who remembers Me exclusively,

without cessation, I am easy to obtain, O Arjuna,

as he is in constant union of love with the Divine."

This 'Mahavakya' of Gita is given to us as a great instruction.

The true meaning implied in these words of Lord Krishna is that if any

soul after surrendering his body, mind, intellect and ego to Him

ALONE, always REMEMBERS Him with loving feelings, He is very EASILY

ATTAINABLE for that soul.

O my blessed mind! Make yourself worthy of His Divine Grace!

Attain the ultimate goal of humanlife!"

Lord is ever available to those

who seek Him with Love and surrender,

through His Divine Grace.

When we take ONE stride towards the Lord,

He takes TEN strides towards us.

"sarva guhyatamaM bhUyah zruNu me paramaM vacaH"

Gita 18.64

- 'Listen to My supreme word,

the profoundest of ALL.'

"Fixing your MIND upon Me.

be devoted to Me.

Sarifice every thing for Me.

Prostrate before Me.

So shall you come to Me.

This is My pledge to you,

for you are dear to Me."

Gita 18.65

'Fixing your mind upon Me,

be devoted to Me.

Sacrifice unto Me.

Bow down to Me.

Having thus made yourself steadfast in Me,

taking Me as the Supreme goal, you will come to Me."

Gita 9.34.

"tana, mana, praana samarpana kari jo, kara nita hari ko dhyaan, (3)"

"mayyeva mana Adhatva mayi buddhiM nivezaya

nivaSyasi mayyeva ata UrdhvaM na saMzayaH"

(Gita-12.8)

-'Fix your mind on Me alone,

let your thoughts dwell in Me.

You will hereafter live in Me alone.

Of this there is no doubt.'

tasmAt sarveSu kAleSu

mAm anusmara yudhya ca

mayy arpita-mano-buddhir

mAm evaiSyasy asaMzayaH

(Gita - 8.7)

- 'Therefore, Arjuna, you should always remember Me

while carrying out your activity of fighting.

With your activities dedicated to Me and

your mind and intelligence surrendered to Me,

you will attain Me without doubt.'

mayyAvezya mano ye mAM

nityayuktA upAsate

zraddhayA parayopetA

ste me yuktatamA matAH'

Gita 12.2

- 'Those souls who have fixed their minds on Me,

who, ever attached, steadfast and endowed with supreme faith,

worship Me - them I consider perfect in yoga.'

"taako hari ati sulabha jaan mana, raha na kaamanaa aan, (4)"

Also the seeker should mentally free himself from of all other worldly

bondage and mundane desires of the heart.

anyAbhilASitA zUnyam

jnAna karmAdi anAvRtam

AnukUlyena kRSNAnuzIlanaM

bhaktir uttamaH

(Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu)

There are THREE main points to be grasped.

Firstly, - anyAbhilASitA zUnyam -

one should be devoid of ALL kinds of desires - bhukti and mukti.

Secondly, - jnAna karmAdi anAvRtam -

'Bhakti' should NOT be diluted by KARMA (ritualistic and obligatory

actions),

JNANA (doctrines of subtle knowedge and philosophies),

tapa (penance, austerity), etc.

Thirdly, - AnukUlyena kRSNAnuzIlanam -

one should actively love and serve Lord (Krishna) in a pleasing way,

through relationships of Santa (peaceful neutral tranquility), Dasya

(humble eternal servitude), Sakhya (eternal friendship), Vatsalya

(eternal parent-hood) and Madhurya (passionate amorous-love of eternal

sweetheart).

"tarka, vitarka, kutarka aadi kee, taji de apanee baan, (5)"

So leave all the clever arguements to falsify Lord's statements,

and do not indulge in vain intellectual discussions

with convenient interpretations by different scholars.

As revealed in Narada Bhakti Sutra:

74. vAdo nAvalambyaH

The devotee should not indulge in argumentation.

75. bAhulyAvakAzatvAd aniyatatvAc ca

Such argumentation involves excessive logical manipulation

and is never conclusive nor conducive to devotion.

O tricky mind! You have spent many, many lives

with your habitual doubts and controversies.

Atleast, in this lifetime, please wake up and take shelter of

a Siddha Mahapurusha, the Rasik Saint of Sri Radha-Krishna.

"rahu 'kRpAlu' sadguru sharanaagati, karu govinda guna gaan. (6)"

In the concluding verse, the Saint-Poet has stressed the importance of

the indispensable "Sat Guru - Saranagati".

"mukhyatastu mahatkRpaiva bhagavat kRpAlezAd vA"

(Narada Bhakti Sutra 38)

Primarily, it (Divine Love) is attained ONLY through the Grace of

great souls, and through a SLIGHT measure of the Grace of Lord.

"mahatsangastu durlabho 'gamyo 'moghzca"

"labhyate 'pi tat kRpayaiva"

(N.B.S. 39,40)

"But it is EXTREMELY difficult to come into contact with

a great Rasik Saint and to be benefited by by His company;

The influence of such Saints is subtle;

incomprehencible, and unerringly infallible in its effect.

Neverthless it is attainable by Grace of God and Godmen alone."

"parIkSya lokAn karma citAn brAhmaNo

nirveda mAyAn nAstya kRtaH kRtena

tad vijnAnArhaM sa gurum evAbhi gaccet

samit pANiH zrotriyaM brahma niSTham"

(Mundaka Upanishad. 1.2.12)

- "Having tested the worlds won by works,

let the seeker of God arrive at detachment.

What is not made is not attained by what is done.

For this knowledge,

let one go with fuel in hand to a teacher

who is learned in the scriptures and established in God.

To the one who has approached properly,

whose mind is calm, who has attained peace,

let the one knowing teach in the truth of reality

that knowledge of God

by which one knows the imperishable Spirit, the true."

"AcAryavAn puruSo hi veda" (Chandogya Upanishad 6.14.12)

"tad viddi praNipAtena pariprznena sevayA

upadekSyaMti te jnAnaM jnAninas tatva darzinaH" (Gita 4.34)

"tasmAd guruM prapadyet jijnAsuH zreya uttamam

zAbde pare ca niSNAtaM brahmaNyupazamAzrayam"

Srimad Bhagavatam- 11.3.21

- "Therefore (due to seeing the miseries of life),

one should surrender unto a guru and inquire from him

about the highest good. This guru is conversant with

the scripture and the Supreme, and he has taken

full shelter of Brahman."

Following the Lord's instructions, please sing HARI NAMA (Divine

Names), reflect upon His Divine form, attributes and glories,

meditate on His blissful lilas (exploits).

"tRNAdapi sunIcena tarorapi sahiSNunA

amAninA mAnadena kIrtanIyaH sadA hariH"

(Caitanya Sikshashtakam- 3)

- "Humbler than the grass, more tolerant than the tree,

giving up all egotism and paying respects to ALL,

a devotee SHOULD always SING of Lord Hari."

Lord Krishna said:

- 'Glorifying Me always, striving, firm in faith,

prosrating before Me, they worship Me with

spontaneous love and devotion, ever steadfast.'

(Gita 9.14)

O my blessed mind! Make yourself worthy of His Divine Grace!

Attain the ultimate goal of humanlife!"

"puruSah sa parah pArtha

bhaktyA labhyastvananya yA..."

(Gita 8.22)

- "That Supreme Purusha,

O Partha, is ATTAINABLE only by

unswerving DEVOTION to Him.

Namaste.

Here is another 'pada' of 'Prema Rasa Madira' by Sri Kripaluji

Maharaj.

"rato re mana, cina, cina shyaamaa-shyaam!!"- (1)

O my blessed mind! Kindly listen to my pledge!

Please sing unceasingly the Divine Names of

Sri Radha and Her Beloved, Shyama Sundar,

every moment of your life!

"sad ghan, cid ghan, aananda ghan jo roopa yek, dvai naam" (2)

Sat-Cit-Ananda Brahman, the Supreme Lord eternally manifests

in TWO embodied non-different Divine forms - Radhika and Govinda

for the continous expansion of Divine Bliss (Rasa) and performing the

Divine exploits, there by attracting the fortunate souls by Divine

Grace.

ye yaM rAdhA yas ca kRSNo rasAbdhiH

ddehazcaikaH krIdanArthaM dvidA bhUt

(RadhikA tapaniyopanishad)

The Divine couple, Radha and Krishna constitute the unfathomable ocean

of ultimate Divine Bliss.

They have assumed Two Personalities only to engage in the playful

pastimes of Divine Love.

rAdhikA kRSNa svarUpaM ca

kRSNo rAdhA svarUpakaH

(sanat kumara samhita)

The Blessed Form of Sri Radha alone is the Form of Sri Krishna and the

Divine charming Personality of Sri Krishna alone is the Blisful Figure

called Sri Radha. They are non-different.

"mamaiva pauruSam rUpam

gopikA jana mohanam"

(Brahma Vaivarta Purana)

"Ananda cinmaya rasa prati bhAvitAbhiH

stAbhirya yeva nija roopata yA kalAbhiH "

(Brahma Samhitam)

"jaasu naama shiva, suka, sanakaadika, gaavata aaThoyaam" (3)

O my doubting mind! Please hear more about the virtues of the Divine

Names.

The transcendental Name of Sri Radha Krishna are ever meditated upon

not only by Lord Sada Shiva, the Gopiswara Shankar Bhagavan, the

Parama Vaishnava, Maha-Bhagavatottama, but also by God-realized

Paramahamsa saints, like Sukadeva and ever liberated heavenly sages

like Sanat Kumaras.

'zrI rAma rAma rAmeti rame rAme manorame,

sahasra nAma tat tulyaM rAma nAma varAnane!'

(Vishnu Sahasra Nama)

Lord Shiva tells to His Consort Devi Parvati-

"O Delight of My heart, O My dear Beautiful-faced Lady!

I Myself constantly enjoy the Supreme Bliss chanting the Divine Name

of My Beloved as 'Sri Rama, Sri Rama' Which is EQUAL to reciting the

ONE THOUSAND Names of Lord Vishnu, Sriman Narayana!!

'yatpAda paGkaja rajaH zrutibhirvimRgyaM

yannAbhi paGkaja bhavaH kamalAsanazca,

yannAma sAra rasiko bhagavAn purAris

tam rAmacandram anizaM hRdi bhAvayAmi'

(Adhyatma Ramayana I.5.47)

I fondly contemplate upon that Lord Ramacandra constantly in my heart,

the dust of Whose lotus-feet is searched for by the Vedas as well as

the lotus-seated lord Brahma, who is born from His very own

lotus-navel,

and the ESSENTIAL TREASURE of Whose NAME is RELISHED even by Lord

Shiva, the Connoiseur of Divine Love.

Lord Shiva is often portrayed as in constant MEDITATION ON KRISHNA,

WEEPING, DANCING with ECSTASY of devotion.

Of all those who know Krishna, it is Shiva, the BEST OF VAISNAVAS, who

knows Him best.

'svapne jAgaraNe zazvath kRSNa dhyAna rataH

zivaH

yathA kRSNA stathA zambhur na bhedo mAdhavezayoH"

(Brahma Vaivarta Purana-Prakriti khanda II.56.61)

"Sleeping or awake, Shiva is constantly absorbed in MEDITATION of

KRISHNA.

AS IS KRISHNA, SO IS SHAMBHU; THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE between MADHAVA

and ISA"

"haste 'kSa mAlA hRdi kRSNa tattvaM

jihvAgra bhAge vara rAma mantraM

yan mastake kezava pAda tirthaM

zivaM 'mahA bhAgavatAM' namAmi"

I salute to Lord Shiva, the Supreme Devotee, (Maha Bhagavata)

in Whose hand is the a-ksha (A to Z) japamaala,

in Whose heart is the reservoir of Divine Essence of Lord Krishna,

on Whose tongue is ever residing the Name of His Beloved Rama,

on Whose head is ever flowing Sacred water that washes the Lotus feet

of Lord Keshava.

"jIvana mukta brahma para carita sunahi taji dhyAn

je hari kathA na karahi rati tinake hiya pASAn"

(Sri Rama Carita Manas)

continued...

"jaakee leelaa lakhana jnani jana, bane viTapa braja dhaam" (4)

O restless mnd!

Get some peace and confidence knowing that to witness the Blissful

exploits of the Divine Couple and Their Gopis in the sacred Vridavan,

the liberated Jnani Mahapurusha, God-realized saints accept even the

blessed forms of trees, bushes and flowering vine in the holy land of

Braja.

"AsAmaho carana renu jushamahaM zyAM

vRndAvane kimapi gulma latauSadhI nAM

yA dustyajaM svajana mArya pathaMca hitvA

bhejur mukunda padavIM zRti bhirvi mRgyAM"

(Bhagavatam 10.47.61)

The great Jnani devotee Uddhava, dedicated friend of Sri Krishna

prayed-

"O Sri Krishna!

How fortunate I would be, to become a grove, a creeper, or a plant in

the forest of VrindAvana, in order to be blessed with the "foot-dust"

of the Gopis, who have cut off all bonds of worldly attachments and

attained the Highest state of transcendental Bliss of Divine love,

which is being searched in Vedas, from time immemorial (but invain)!

"jaasu dham, vidhi braja raja yaacata, ThaaDe eka hi paam" (5)

O unsteady mind!

Please be aware of the fact that just to receive the Divine dust

particle of the transcendental realm of Vraja, the cosmic creator,

Lord Brahma, performed severe penance of standing on one leg for

millions of years!

But still, Brahmaji failed to obtain the Divinelove Bliss of Vraja

Rasa Madhuri.

"SaSTi varSa sahasrANi mayAtaptaM tapaH purA

nanda gopa vrajastrINAM pAdareNupalabdhaye

tathApi na mayA prAptAstAsAM vai pAdareNavaH"

(Brhad Vamana Puranam)

Lord Brahma declares-

"I have performed penance for sixty thousand years to attain the foot-

dust of the Gopis of Braja, who are ever submerged in the Bliss of

Divine Love, yet I failed to receive!"

"tadastu me nAtha sa bhUri bhAgo

bhave 'tra vAnyatra tu vA tirazcAm

yenAhameko 'pi bhavajjanAnAM bhUtvA

niSeve tava pAda pallavam"

Bhagavatam 10.14.30

Sri Mahalakshmi also could not participate in the Great esctatic

Divine Dance, Maha Raasa of Sri Radha Krishna and the Gopis.

(SB 10.16.36, 10.15.8, C.C.1.5.223 & 3.7.28)

"jina 'kRpalu' guna suni, suka se muni, tajata samadhi lalaam" (6)

In the concluding verse, Prema Rasa Parama Acarya, Sri Kripaluji

urges :

O blessed mind! Reap your good fortune!

Know that just by hearing one sublime verse about the blissful

attributes of Divine Grace and Supreme charm of Lord Krishna, the

Paramahamsa muni, God-realized saint from birth, Sri Sukadeva

renounced his 'nirvikalpa samadhi'- the Divine trance of oneness with

Absolute Brahman.

"barhApIDaM naTavara vapuH karNayoH karNikAraM

bibhradyAsaH kanaka kapizaM vaijayantIM ca mAlAm

randhrAn veNor adharasudhayA pUrayan gopabRndair

vRndAraNyaM svapada ramaNaM prAvizad gIta kIrtiH"

(Srimad Bhagavatam 10/18/5)

Krishna is adorned with a peacock feather and

His ears are graced with flowers,

Krishna's clothes are the color of bright gold.

He wears a Vaiyanti forest garland

And appears as the actor-husband.

He is the Svaminis (Gopis) choice,

Their Lord and husband.

He fills the holes of His flute

With the nectar from His lips.

The song of His praise sounds

As He enters Vrindavan

Surrounded by His cowlad friends.

His lotus feet appear splendid

And create dalliance wherever

They touch the ground. (Bhagavat 10/18/5)

This is the first verse that broke the samadhi of Sri Sukadeva,

forcibly attracting him to the charms of the Supreme Lord and His

transcendental beauty.

And upon hearing the next verse Sri Suka fell deeply in love with

Lord Krishna.

aho bakIyaM stana kAlakUTaM

jighAMsayA 'pAyayadapya sAdhvI

lebhe gatiM dhAtryucitAM tato 'nyaM

kaM vA dayAluM zaraNaM vrajema

(Bhagavatam 3.2.23)

" O, Lord! There is NO ONE Who is as LOVING and MERCIFUL as YOU, at

Whose feet I can take REFUGE.

You are so CAUSELESSLY Merciful, that You EVEN gave the WICKED

demoness, Putana, the place of a FOSTER-MOTHER in Your abode and

LIBERATED her, even though she came to You with the MURDEROUS

INTENTION of suckling You with her POISONED breasts."

Sri Suka even longed to hear more about his Divine Beloved

Radha-Krishna and learned the entire Bhagavatam from his

father-teacher,

Sri Veda Vyasa, the compliler of the sacred Vedas.

" AtmA ramazca munayo nirgranthA apyurukrame

kurvanty ahaitukI bhakti mitthaM bhUta guNe hariH "

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.7.10)

Suta replied:

Even the liberated Sages who delight in the SELF ALONE and the knot of

WHOSE IGNORANCE has been cut asunder ENGAGE in SELFLESS DEVOTION to

SRI HARI!

Those who have ATTAINED the State of Paramahamsas BECOME FORCIBLY

ATTRACTED to Lord Krishna. There is definitely some REMARKABLE

specialty.

Such are HIS VIRTUES!

"harerguNAkSipta matir bhagavAn bAdarAyaNiH

adhyagAn mahad AkhyAnaM nityaM viSNujanapriyaH "

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.7.11)

This was TRUE ALL the MORE of the Divine Sage Sukadeva, son of Veda

Vyasa (Baadaraayana) and the Beloved of Lord Vishnu's OWN Associates,

who STUDIED this GREAT CHRONICLE (Bhagavatam) EVERY day, HIS MIND

having been CAPTIVATED by Sri Hari's Excellences.

So O wise mind!

What more evidence do you need to be convinced of the glories of

remembering Lord's Names and exploits?

Please sing the holy Names of Beloved Lord and make your human life

successful and enjoy the bliss of Prema bhakti, Divine Love.

Jaya Jaya Sri Radhey!

Namaste devotees!

This 'pada' from the 'Siddhanta Madhuri' section of

'Prema-Rasa-Madira' of Sri Kripaluji Maharaj

gives wise instructions to the mind of a true seeker

about the goal of human life.

"are mana! yaha jIvana dina cAr,

cAr cAndinI cAr dinAkI, puni hoyihi andhiyAr,

tU mati manda, mUdha nahi jAnata, ina kapatina vyavahAr,

tU socata haum catura ziromaNi, pai saba haim ikasAr,

sabai sabana kaha Thagana hetu nita, bahu vidha svAMga savAr,

taji 'kRpAlu' aba trividha ISaNa, bhajile nanda-kumAr !"

"O Poor, ignorant mind!

This transient human life will come to an end in just a few more days,

like the fortnight of the bright moon-light days which eventually end

in the dark fortnight.

After loosing the rare opportunity of this human life, the soul has to

transmigrate again in the eight thousand four million species of life.

You will be left only with remorse and regret.

Being ignorant and unaware of the Cosmic laws, you are simply lost in

the artificial, illusory charms of the world and puting your trust in

the crafty persons and in false attachments.

Believing in your brain power, you think that you are smarter than the

rest and can understand all the tricky nature of others around you.

Similarly, other persons think that they can easily outsmart you with

their superior intellect.

This whole world is filled with such selfish persons who engage

themselves in stepping on others to prove their superiority and

satisfy their own false ego, thus causing much suffering to all the

living beings.

These tugs of war, this kind of useless business deals are going on

from time immemorial, and the souls are ever deprived of their true

purpose of life on this earth.

In the last verse, the Poet-Saint Kripaluji challenges

the courageous mind to show its TRUE INTELLIGENCE.

He says,

'O Smart mind! If you want to be benefited by the real knowledge

you have aquired so far, then you MUST give up all the desires of

three modes of nature (satva, raja, tama - guna), surrender your mind,

intellect and ego to the Lord.

Please devote yourself completely (through the actions of body, mind

and words), to the loving service of Nanda-Kumar (Lord Krishna), the

Beloved Son of Nanda, the Cowherd-chief'

Jaya Sri Radhey!

Namaste all.

"rAdhe nAma pukaarata aarata, bhaajati taji nija dhaama,"

Taking the Blissful Name 'Radhe, Radhe', EVEN for ONCE,

IF a soul in COMPLETE FAITH and SELF-SURRENDER,

calls Sri Radhika with feelings of distress

in loving separation, She will AT ONCE leave

Her own Abode and Her Beloved Lord in

such a hurry to rescue that fallen soul,

irrespective of his or her SINFUL or VIRTUOUS nature.

Not only that, She will ever after keep that devoted soul

as the very "pupil" of Her own eyes and bestows the Supreme

welfare upon that surrendered soul!

She is such an EMBODIMENT of the Supreme Power of GRACE (mahA-

vadAnyAya, and parama Karuna)!!

Who is MORE kind and helpful to give REFUGE and shelter

to the UNFORTUNATE, IGNORANT souls of Kaliyuga,

devoid of ALL merits and virtues!

"milyo 'kripaalu' hin ratan amolak, kahaa jagat so kaam ?"

Saint-Poet Sri Kripalu ji declares:

"What business I have with this fleeting, mortal world

and its ignorant inhabitants when I have secured

the priceless eternal Gem, the Divine Name called "Raadha"!!

("china, china 'rAdhe nAma' rato re mana!!"-

One verse of the Kitana pada from 'Prema-Rasa-Madira'

composed by the Poet-Saint Sri Kripaluji Maharaj)

Namaste all. Here is very thoughtful pada from 'Siddhanta Madhuri' of

'Prema Rasa Madira' composed in Vraja bhasha by Jagadguru Sri

Kripaluji Maharaj and published in early 1950s.

'are mana! sunu upaniSad vicAr'

O my dear naive mind!

Please just listen to what the ancient sacred

scriptures have declared.

'kovu pitu-mAta, putra sukha-kAraNa, karata na sapanehun pyAr'

Mother and father do not love the child for the sole hapiness

sake of the son or daughter, not even in their dreams.

'timi kovu putra mAtu-pitu sukha hita karata na kachu vyavahAr'

Similarly no son and daughter do engage themselves in various actions

for the sake of parents' happiness alone.

'kovu tiya pati hita pyAr karati nahin asa kaha sant pukAr'

So also, the Saints have been making their loud announcements that the

wife does not love the husband for the sake of his happiness.

'timi kovu pati tiya sukha kAraNa kachu karata na yahi ura dhAr'

Make it firm in your heart that the husband too never loves his wife

for keeping her ever happy.

In the concluding verse the Poet-Saint Sri Kripaluji brings out the

essence of the verse 2.4.5 of Brihadaranyaka Upanishad declaring:

'sab 'kRpAlu' nija sukha hita nita prati jorata nAta hajAr'

>From time immemorial everyone in this material world have been

entangled in so called attachments and enter into and establish

thousands of relationships frankly for the sake of one's own

self-happiness.

It is a well known true doctrine revealed in the Scripture.

The implied teaching here is to not fool ourselves or others any more

by accepting this scriptural truth. The wise seekers who have realized

this fact would not waste their life on the earth but look for the

true eternal happiness of the self, the spirit soul, which lies in the

Divine Supreme Soul alone.

Namaste.

I have come across this message from a sincere seeker on the internet:

I am 'NOT' a Buddhist, although I like the Buddha very much

indeed. I also like 'Jesus' and am not a christian. And I like Sri

Chaitanya (very much) but do not claim to be a Gaudiya Vaishnava nor

see him as his orthodox followers do...and I may as well add that I

also like Sankara (but certainly am not a sankarite) and while I'm at

it...I like Lao Tzu and am not a Taoist and I like Rumi but am not

Sufi.

Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj's teachings instruct more to such a

true seeker:

- "After knowing the various teachings of many 'Maha Purusha', the

God-realized saints, what decision have you arrived at?

What is the suitable path for your own spiritual upliftment?

How can you achieve the ultimate goal of spiritual life without

starting the 'sadhana', your practical approach of Self-realization?

All the above mentioned saintly teachers had their missions on earth

and their sincere students as well as faithful followers who were

their blessed beneficiaries.

So also the sincere seeker has to make up his/her mind in a 'sadhana'

suitable for himself/herself given by God-realized saints and start

the practical spiritual endeavor.

For example, in remote rural Indian dry land, if one wants to obtain

water from a premanent source like a well, one has to begin the

process of digging for the well on the soil surface. Then gradually

one can be assured that sooner or later but some day one will reach

the underground water level depending on one's persistence of the

process and vigorous strength of one's effort.

Merely after one or two unsuccessful attempts of digging at some spot

for some time if the aspirant leaves this spot and starts the same

process at another place allover again, he/she may be spending his/her

entire life changing the spots of digging for water, since no attempt

was persistent, nor continuous, nor long enough, nor with firm faith

or determination.

Instead of changing the digging spots, the aspirant using all his/her

vigorous strength and faith continues to drill at the same place as

long as it takes to find underlying water, then his/efforts could

become fruitful in the end.

Another worldly example can be also given in this context. If one

desires of having progeny, one must start finding a suitable mate and

start dating, then fall in love, get engaged, then get married, then

after well settled financially make attempts for successful conception

until the baby is finally concieved and then brought into the world

after the period of gestation as a healthy child by the determined

parents.

One has to go through such a constant endeavor even to have desired

material results, what to speak of spiritual sadhana and

God-realization!

So it is wise to start the practical devotion on a chosen path as

early as possible since human life is precious but very short and

momentary. There is no guarantee that we would be still here tomorrow

to discuss which spiritual path to follow!" -

The human life and Divine association of a Saint are precious

treasures and not to be lost nor wasted by our lack of faith and

wholehearted surrender.

Srimad Bhagavatam 11.2.29:

"For the conditioned souls, the human body is most difficult to

achieve, and it can be lost at any moment. But I think that even

those who have achieved human life rarely gain the association of

pure devotees, who are dear to the Lord of Vaikuntha."

durlabhaM trayame vaitad devAnugraha hetukam

manuSyatvaM mumukSutvaM mahApuruSa saMzrayaH

(Viveka Chudamani.3, Adi Jagadguru Sri Shankara)

These three things are hard to achieve, and are attained only by the

grace of God - human birth, desire for God-realization, and taking

full refuge in a great Saint.

Namaste _/\_ all.

Another thoughtful 'pada' from 'Siddhanta Madhuri - Prema Rasa Madira'

by Jagadguru Sri Kripaluji Maharaj:

"suno sub jIva hamArI bAt...

'yamevaiSa vRNute' mama vANI, vizva vidita vikhyAt,

yAko artha, zaraNa hvai joyi bhaja, soyi mohi pAyi sakAt,

'guhyAd guhyatamam' gItA mey, kahya gupta mata tAt,

tAko artha ihai mana budhi dai, bhajahu mohi din-rAt,

karahu 'kRpAlu' bhjana tum nizi-din, dehu tarka dhari pAt. "

Siddha Mahapurusha and Bhagavan both give the souls of the world

same instructions regarding the true practical points of Bhakti.

"Dear aspiring jivatmas, please listen to my kind words!

The world famous scriptural declaration of the Lord,

Kathopanishad 1.2.23 says-

'nAyamAtma pravacanena labhyo

na medhayA na bahunA zrutena,

yame vaiSa vRNute tena labhya-

stasyaiSa AtmA vivRNute tanUM svAm.'

God is NOT known through the study of scriptures,

nor through subtlety of the intellect nor

through much learning.

WHOM the Lord CHOOSES (Out of His causeless Grace) by him alone is God

is attained, verily unto him does the Supreme reveal His true Being.

No one can attain God with one's spiritual practice. Then how can He

be attained?

Those great souls who have attained God-realization declare to the

seekers that Divine illumination and enlightenment is received 'only

through His Grace'.

Lord is not partial. His Grace falls upon saints and sinners alike.

just as rain fall on all and the sun shines for everyone.

Another prayer reveals that the Lord is the Cause of all causes.

'Izvara parama kRSNa saccidAnanda vigraha

anAdirAdi govinda sarvakaraNa kAraNam.'

(Sri Brahma Samhita 5.1)

Just as God has no cause, His Grace is also causeless.

Every attribute of God is causeless.

The causeless Lord Himself is the Embodiment of causeless Grace.

His Saints on the earth are also the manifestations of His Divine

Grace, His SVARUPA Shakti.

'sarvedhikariNoH yatraH sarvadharma bahirbutaH sarvapAparatastathA....'

The righteous as well as the sinners are equally eligible to receive

the alms of His Grace, without descrimination.

This is said to be the 'supariNama'of Lord's 'akAraNa kRpa'-

the great benevolent result of His causeless Grace.

All God-realzed souls have prayed to Him, praising the Lord as

'akAraNa karuNa', 'adhama uddhraNa', 'patita pavana' and so on:

'he kRSNa! karuNA sindho! dIna bandho! jagat pate!'

His Grace is also called by devotees in many Sanskrit names, such as

'anugraha, prasada, kAruNya, kRpa, udArata and daya'.

The word 'anugraha'- is quoted here by Lord Himself.

'anugrahAya bhUtAnAM mAnuSaM dehamAsthitaH....' (Bhagavatam 10.33.37)

'paramaM taddhi nirvANaM mad anugraha bhavet'

'dhanyo 'haM kRta kRtyo 'haM vimukto 'haM

tad anugraha hetuke naiva vijnAnena mokSa siddiH'

(Sri Adi SankaracArya)

The word 'prasAda'- is used by the devotee-desciple-friend of

Gita-acrya, Arjuna:

'naSTo moham smRtir labdhA tvat prasAdAn'- Gita 18.73.

'tat prsAda parAM zAntiM sthAnaM prApsyasi zAzvatam' - Gita 18.

'guru kRSNa prasAda paya bhakti latA bIja' - Lord Caitanya (C.C.)

'avirala bhakti vizuddha tava zruti purANa jehi gAva,

jehi khojat yogIza muni, prabhu prasAda kovu pAva.' - Sant Tulasidas

(Sri Rama Carita Manas)

The word 'kAruNya'- is used by Sri Narada Muni, Sandilya Maharshi

'mukhyaM tasyahi kAruNyaM' - (Sandilya Bhakti Sutra)

'kRSNa tad bhakta kAruNya mAtra lAbhaika hetukA

pushti mArgatayA kaizcidiyaM rAgAnugocyate' Sri Roopa (Bhakti Rasmrita

Sindhu)

'parama kAruNiko na bhavatparaH

paramazocyatamo na ca matparaH' - Another saint (Padyavali)

The word 'kRpa'- is used by many Saints:

'mukhyatastu mahatkRpaiva bhagavatkRpAlezAd vA' -(Narada bhakti Sutra. 38)

'labhyatep'i tat kRpayaiva'

(Naradabhakti Sutra. 40)

The word 'udArata':

Sri Radhaji said in Gita Govindam of Sri Jayadeva -

'sakhI, he! kezimathanam udAraM..."

Sri Radha mohana dasa said in 'Gaura-giti'-

'sakhI! kalaya gauram udAraM!..'

and the word 'daya' of the Lord is well known to all:

'aho bakIyaM ....kaM vA dayAluM zaraNam vrajema' - (Bhagavatam 3.2.23)

Rasik Saints explain further on Lord's causeless Grace-

'jimi ho zIta nivRtta tina, jina dig agni sidhAr

timi ho kRpA tinahi jina, mana jAye hari dwAr'

- Bhakti Shatak. 30, Sri Kripaluji Maharaj

Just as one begins to experiences the warmth and heat as soon as one

reaches near the burning fire, similarly, when the mind and heart of

the sincere seeker approah the proximity of all merciful Lord, the

doorstep of blissful Lord, ('Hari dwaar'), he/she immediately

experiences His causeless Grace.

As said in scriptures, Lord's Grace is by nature 'Causeless'.

Not only His Grace, all His Divine attributes are causeless

since He Himself is ' the Cause of being Causeless'!

But why only certain souls are capable of benefiting from His Grace?

The nature of fire is only to give heat and warmth.

The fire does not have any cause or reason for spontaneously

giving out its heat. The fire does not ask the shivering bodies

to pay any price in return for giving out its heat spontaneously.

But people wo have distanced themselves cannot derive this

benefit of heat from the burning fire.

The fire 'equally' distributes its heat to good and bad persons,

does not discriminate depending on any of their merits or faults.

That is known as causelessness. Just as heat can be only received by

the bodies approaching closer to fire, to receive Lord's Grace one

has to let one's mind and heart approach Him in humble surrender.

One has to open the sail so that ever blowing

wind can take the boat to the shore.

One has to open wide the windows

and let the bright sunshine in.

So also one has to open up the heart to the Lord,

and Divine Grace rushes through.

Actually the meaning of 'upAsana'- (upa+ As+ lyuc) coming close.

When one who possesses a great amount of treaured wealth, one gives

out to the poor and needy in charity, the act itself is called- kripa,

Grace.

Even a begger has to forsake his/her ego and humbly approach

the giver of charity for receiving the alms.

No qualification is asked and no 'deservedness' is needed for 'begging

out' but the begging to the Lord has to be wholehearted cry of

surrender from within, giving up craftiness and deceitful tendencies.

How clever he or she may be, the seeker can never deceive

the 'antar-yAmi', all pervading Supreme Soul, 'Paramatma'.

The whole purpose of the 'devotional sadhana' is to learn

how to sincerely cry for His Divine Grace with a great longing.

As soon as the heart reaches the Stealer of Hearts,

Lord fills it with Divine Love, through His Grace,

The Ocean of Grace exists for the fallen souls.

Since God Himself is Grace. let us keep no more doubts

about it. Without His Grace NO ONE CAN REALIZE HIM.

'Give us this day our daily bread'- Holy Bible.

Our daily bread here means the 'Bread of Divine Grace'!

The seekers should always be praying that His Grace

may be revealed to them, this moment and forever.

God's will is whatever will LEADS His souls to Him.

A true devotee prays,

"Lord! I do not know what Your will is, but GUIDE me

so that I may DO it. May I be a tool in Your hand!"

'Lord, Thy will be done, not mine.' This is true surrender.

Remember God's Grace is always upon everyone.

But only the soul that surrenders to Him whole heartedly

will experience and realize Divine Grace.

He could reveal Himself to that surrenderd soul any time.

Without Surrendering to the Power of Divine Grace,

'bhakti' cannot be cultivated.

The secret, the hidden essence of Gita is

the absolute 'Surrender and Grace'.

"sarva guhyatamaM bhUyah zruNu me paramaM vacaH" - Gita 18.64

'Listen to My supreme word, the profoundest of ALL.'

'Fix your mind upon Me.

Be devoted to Me.

Sarifice every thing for Me.

Prostrate before Me.

So shall you come to Me.

This is My PLEDGE to you,

for you are DEAR to Me.'

(Gita 18.65)

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa said:

"How does a devotee behold the Lord?

He beholds Him as his OWN, even as the

GOPIS of Brindavan beheld Lord Krishna.

Those milkmaids cared NOT for the cosmic POWERS of that great Supreme

Being. Krishna was their Darling and they were SATISFIED with that!

To the pure Bhakta, the Lord is his dearmost, innermost intimate

BELOVED and he is always absorbed in that loving feeling."

'Sharanagati'- the state of self-surrender, the act of taking refuge

in the Lord, has to be absolute and exclusive- 'ananya'.

Lord krishna wants the total surrender of heart, mind, intellect and ego.

mayyeva mana Adhatsva

mayibuddiM nivezaH

nivaSyasi mayyeva

ata UrdhvaM na saMzayaH'

(Gita.12.8)

'Fixing your mind on Me alone,

let your thoughts dwell in Me.

You will hereafter live in Me alone.

Of this there is no doubt.'

mayyAvezya mano ye mAM

nityayuktA upAsate

zraddhayA parayopetA

ste me yuktatamA matAH

(Gita 12.2)

'Those souls who have fixed their minds on Me,

and who, ever steadfast and endowed with supreme faith,

worship Me- them I consider perfect in yoga.'

'Fixing your mind upon Me, be devoted to Me.

Sacrifice unto Me, bowing down to Me.

Having thus made yourself steadfast in Me,

taking Me as the Supreme goal, you will come to Me.'

(Gita 9.34.)

If the aspiring soul can practice this, attaining Lord Krishna will be

possible.

'Freely showering Rainwater does not accumulate on high,

elevated place. It flows away to a receptacle in low region.

Even so, the Grace of the Lord does NOT descend in the hearts

of the haughty and vainglorious. It dawns in the hearts of

the low and meek.'

'How does one shall attain God's Grace?

Can the seeker with a distressed heart pray to Him for His Grace

and revelation?

One sheds pots full of tears for the sake of one's spouse, children

and wealth. How many have shed a drop of tear seeking the Lord?

As long as the baby is interested in toys, the mother minds her own

business.

But as soon as the baby throws away those things and SCREAMS,

the mother rushes to attend on him.

If the aspirant devotee behaves likewise towards God,

He will reveal Himself to him.

In the concluding verse Poet-Saint Kripaluji requests the blessed

souls to throw away all their mundane logic, clever vain arguments,

faithless hesitations to surrender to the Lord and to destroy the

doubts about His Divine Grace.

Srimad Bhgavatam warns about the fate of those aspiring souls,

who have neglected Divine Grace and self surrender -

yenyAravindAkSa vimukta mAnina styayyasta

bhAvAdi vizuddha buddhayaH,

ArUhya kRccheNa paraM padaM tataH

patanti adho nA dRta yuSmadaMghrayaH

(Bhagavatam 10.2.32)

Another Rasika Paramahamsa said about the 'nama-aparadha'-

'na vadAmi na duSkRtaM mayAkRtam ityuktimi mAM tu me

zruNu mamabhIti manInazad vibho patitoddhAraka nAma tAvakaM.'

'O Lord! I have committed innumerable sins and offenses.

Of all those sins, my greatest offenese is the 'nama-aparadha' that

I have NEVER put FAITH in Your Grace and NEVER believed You

being 'patita-uddhAraka' - the Savior of the fallen and forlorn!'

Lord Krishna has beautifully said:

'Glorifying Me always, striving, firm in faith, prosrating before Me,

they worship Me with love and devotion, ever steadfast.'

(Gita 9.14)
