Namste:

I hope you are not recommending the demolition of our existing

temples?

Local Official and Governor of Minnesota

PETITION TO LOCAL OFFICIALS OF MAPLE GROVE, & GOVERNOR OF MINNESOTA

FOR

BRINGING CULPRITS INVOLVED IN VANDALISATION OF HINDU MANDIR TO

JUSTICE

On the night of April 5, 2006, vandals broke in the holy precincts

of Maple

Grove Hindu Mandir which is being constructed by the Hindu Society of

Minnesota and damaged murtis and several other areas including

auditorium,

dining hall and classrooms.

The temple was scheduled to open to public in June of 2006. However,

given

these acts of vandalism, the inaugural date is being re-evaluated by

the

Hindu Society of Minnesota.

Numerous architects have been working for over two years on the

traditional

Hindu design of the mandir. Many pieces of the temple have been

handcrafted

in India and shipped to Minnesota for use. The Deities in the

religious

altar were crafted in India and were destroyed as a result of the

vandalism.

This is a tragic loss for the Hindu community of Minnesota in

particular,

and Hindus world over in general.

The City of Maple Grove has been enthusiastically involved in the

planning

and construction of the new temple and is extremely distressed about

the

acts of vandalism. The City is actively working with authorities on

the

investigation of the vandalism.

Hindus and Hindu Mandirs of North America stand one with the Hindu

Society

of Minnesota in wake of this development. We strongly urge:

a) The officials of Minnesota to investigate this heinous act of

vandalism

in detail and take their investigation to its logical conclusion.

b) All the concerned to help Mandir recover from this act by

extending your

moral, and financial support.

c) Everyone to further the already existing healthy relationship

between

Mandir and the larger community.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Yes it is indeed a sad day when sacred places are destroyed and

fanatics are allowed to take over a society. Recently there were

more than a dozen churches that were burned down in Alabama, and

when they traced the arsonists they found young teenagers who had

nothing better to do!

Hate begets hate, and we don't know how, when and who it strikes.

People seem to forget that, at least in the dualistic world, we are

all in it together, for better or worse.

Amazing!
