Adya stotram

The Song of the Foremost (KALI as the Supreme Divinity)

 

Srnu vatsa pravaksyami adya stotram mahaphalam

Yah pathet satstam bhaktya sa eva visnu vallabhah

Listen, my child, while I elucidate the Song of the Foremost, which

grants the great fruit. Who will always recite this with devotion,

will have strength comparable to that of Visnu.

 

Mrtyuvyadhibhayam tasya nasti kincit kalau yuge

Aputro labhate putram tripaksam sravanam yadi

Neither death nor illness will bring fear, nor anything else of the

Kali Yuga. Those without children will attain children, if they

listen (to this) three times (a day).

 

Dvau masau bandhanan muktirvipravaktra srutam yadi

Mrtavatsa jivavatsa sanmasan sravanam yadi

If this be heard from the mouth of a twice-born for two months, one

will be liberated from bondage. If one will listen thus for six

months he will be liberated from the cycles of birth and death.

 

Naukayam sankate yuddhe pathanajjayamapnuyat

Likhitva sthapanad gehe nagnicaurabhayam kvacit

It is a boat to cross the difficulties of war; on one will be able to

defeat the person who recites it. And if it is duly written and

established in one's house, no fear will come from fire, thieves

nor

from other causes.

 

Rajasthane jayi nityam prasannah sarvadevatah

Papani vilayam yanti mrtau mukti mavapnuyat

In the house of kings one will be eternally invincible, and pleasing

to all the gods. Cleaving asunder the sins of all life, one ill be

liberated even from death

 

Om hrim brahmani brahmaloke ca vaikunthe sarvamangala

Indrani amaravatyamambika varunalaye

Om Hrim (the totality of Maya what can be perceived, conceived or

intuited) in the Brahma loka, in the reality of Creative

Consciousness, is Brahmani, the Energy of Creative Consciousness; in

Vaikuntha, the home of Visnu, is all welfare. In the land of the

immortals (the heaven of Indra), is Indrani, the energy of the rule

for the Pure, and Ambika, the Divine Mother, in the home of Varuna,

the Lord of Equilibrium.

 

Yamalaye kalarupa kuberabhavane subha

Mahanandagni kone ca vayavyam mrga vahini

In the house of Death, is the Dark Form, and with the Lord of Wealth,

is the radiant luster. In the southeast, home of Agni, the Divine

Fire or purifying light of meditation , is Great Delight, and in the

northwest, the home of Vayu, She rides on the Deer.

 

Nairrtyam raktadanta ca aisanyam suladharini

Patale vaisnavi rupa simhale devamohini

In the southwest is She with Red Teeth, and in the northeast, She who

holds the Spears. In the regions of hell is the form of Vaisnavi, She

who Pervades All, and in Lanka, She who Mesmerizes the Gods.

 

 

Surasa ca manidvipe lankayam bhadrakalika

Ramesvari setubandhe vimala purusottame

In the island of jewels is the Mother of the Gods, and in the island

of Banka, bhadrakalika, the Excellent One Beyond Time. The Supreme

lord of Rama is at the bridge, and in the Excellent Fullness (or

excellent individual), is Vimala, Pure and Stainless.

 

Viraja audradese ca kamakhya nilaparvate

Kalika bangadese ca ayodhyayam mahesvari

The Great Warrior is in the country of Audra, and Kamakhya is in the

blue mountains. In the country of Bengal is Kalika, She who takes

away the Darkness, and in Ayodhya, Mahesvari , the Great Seer of All.

 

Varanasyamannapurna gayaksetre gayesvari

Kuruksetre bhadrakali vraje katyayani para

Annapurna, She who is Full of Food, is at Varanasi, and in the fields

of Gaya, Gayesvari, Supreme Lord of the Abode. In the Kuruksetra the

field of the family, is Bhadrakali, the Excellent One Beyond Time,

and in the thunderbolt, the Excellence of Illumination, is the

Supreme Ever Pure One.

 

Dvarakayam mahamaya mathurayam mahesvari

Ksudha tvam sarvabhutanam vela tvam sagarasya ca

In Dvaraka is Mahamaya, the Great Limitation of Consciousness, and in

Mathura, the Energy of Great Seer of All. You are hunger to all

beings and You are the flow of the tides to the sea.

 

Navami krsna paksasya suklasyaikadasi para

Daksasya duhita devi daksayajna vinasini

On the ninth day of the dark fortnight, and on the eleventh day of

the bright fortnight, remember the goddess who is Daksa's

daughter,

the Destroyer of Daksa's sacrifice.

 

Ramasya janaki tvam hi ravanadhvamsa karini

Candamundavadhe devi raktabija vinasini

Also you are Rama's Janaki (Sita), the cause of Ravana's

destruction,

as well as the Goddess who slays Passion and Meaness, Destroyer of

the seed of desire.

 

Nisumbha sumbha mathani madhu kaitabha ghatini

Visnu bhakti prada durga sukhada moksada sada

You are the killer of Self-conceit and Self-deprecation and Destroyer

of Too Much and Too Little. Oh Durga, Reliever of all ]Difficulties,

bestow eternal devotion upon this consciousness; always give comfort

and liberation.

 

Imam adya stavam punyam yah pathet satatam narah

Sarvajvarabhayam na syat sarvayadhi vinasanam

Whoever will constantly recite this meritorious Song of the Foremost

will destroy all affliction, fear and disease.

 

Koti tirtha phalancasau labhate natra samsayah

Jaya me cagratah patu vijaya patu prsthatah

The fruits of visiting millions of pilgrimage sites will be attained

without a doubt. May victory protect me in my front, and conquest

protects my rear.

 

Narayani sirsadese sarvange simhavahini

Sivaduti ugracanda pratyange paramesvari

The Great Exposer of Consciousness protect the area of the head, and

all the limbs be protected by She Who Rides on the l

Lion, also known as she for whom consciousness is ambassador, She who

is Terrible to Passion, the Supreme Empress of All and Everybody.

 

Visalaksi mahamaya kaumari sankhini siva

Cakrini jayadatri ca ranamatta ranapriya

The Goal of the Infinite, the Great Limitation of Consciousness, the

Ever Pure One, She Who Holds the Conch the Energy of Infinite

Goodness; She who Holds the Discus , the Grantor of Victory and She

who is Intoxicated with Delight, She who is the Lover Delight.

 

Durga jayanti kali ca bhadrakali mahodari

Narasimhi ca varahi siddhidatri sukhaprada

The Reliever of Difficulties, She who is Always Victorious, She who

Takes Away Darkness and the Excellent One Beyond Time, the Wielder of

Ignorance, She who is Half Human and Half Lion and the Boar Sacrifice

the Grantor of Perfection Giver of Comfort.

 

Bhayankari maharaudri mahabhaya vinasini

Who destroys all fear the Great Terrifying One who Destroys All Fear

 

Iti adya stotram samaptam

And that is the completion of the Song of the Foremost.
