Guest guest
Poem to Kali Ma Thank you for asking Sameerji because there is more of this song or poems available under the book called "Grace and Mercy in Her Wild Hair : Selected Poems to the Mother Goddess , translated by Clinton Seely and Leonard Nathan. However they have only translated the songs by Ramprasad Sen (1720-81)(an accountant by vocation) poet who lived during the governance of famed Kali Ma devotee, King Krishnachandra Ray of Krishnanagar in Bengal. Today we have more than 200 songs that is reputed written by Ramprasad however the scholars believe some of this songs were written under his pen name but not by him as it is written after his period' In Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, we see Thakur singing his song but refrain from some as the song do not aspire devotionalism .(Maybe some which is not actually his)We will cover his life story later in our post. Later was born poets like Kamalakanta Chakravarti (d. 1821)who was shaktha too, then we have Tripura Court chief minister Ramdulal Nandi (1785-1851) .Then at mid nineteenth century we see emergence of not Kali devotees but poet who sang Her song like Trailokyanath Sanyal, Dvijendralal Ray, Nabai Moyra, Bireshvar Chakravarti, and Kalidas Bhattacharya Recently we had Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) who is more aligned to Brahmo Samaj (remember Sri Ramakrishna close relationship with Brahmo Samaj leader Keshab Chandra Sen!!) singing Ma `s song but more towards invoking nationalism in the people of India for independence .This is where songs like Vande Mataram started to ignite fire of independent India in their people for independency from British. Kazi Nazrul Islam another poet who combioned the old and new in his songs which was one of the recent attempt to sing the poem in Ramprasada Sen style in this modern time This was collected by Sagaree Sengupta for his webpage called "Bengali Songs to the Goddesss Kali " under ; http://www.parabaas.com/translation/database/translations/essays/shyam asangeet.html Jai Kali !!!!
