Dear group,

The mention of bone got me thinking:

Ever since my early childhood, I have gone for walks in the woods. There I would

often find the bleached bones of various fauna, which I have collected and

treasured as if they were worth something. I don't know why exactly i do this.

I have always found bones of all sorts pretty rather than ugly. When my

collection grew too big, I would cremate some of these bones on an ordinary

fire and carefully store the ashes in jars. when my ash collection grew too

large, i would sprinkle it on the garden.

Given this background, I have the desire to offer bones (for example, snake

ribs) to Maa Kaali in the Homa fire, but have been reluctant to do so thus far

because I have never heard of or read of this being done in any of the Tantras.

I know there is plenty of reference to flesh, bone, hair offerings; but these

are usually sourced from a creature one has just sacrificed (i.e. fresh);

whereas I am talking about offering just bones as found in nature (i.e

weathered and aged). What does anyone think of this? Has anyone heard or read

any Tantric or other tradition describing this practice? The only similar thing

I know about is how the ancient inhabitants of the British Isles would make

large "bone-fires" (from which we derive the term "bonfire") to mark various

seasonal festivals.

Jai Ma Kali,

Loladas
