Guest guest
20.8 Om Kali, Kannaji, I would like to invite other group members to share whatever information they mave have where there are references to Kali Ma in respect to other Gods. For example, there is a reference in the Mahabharata where Lord Krishna takes the Pandavas to Her Shakti Pitham in Kurukshetra to invoke Her blessings before the war. Guest guest
In the "" newsgroup, a fellow devi bhakta wrote that he visited the Bhadrakali temple at Kurukshetra. The pandit there told him that not only was the incident you related below the case, but that Bhadrakali was Krishna's family deity and that His hair-cutting ceremony was also conducted in said temple. This, of course, may be part of the oral tradition. Jai Kali Ma --Aravind --- "Sameer A. Kali with Siva & how their union creates samana (equalization). - Narada Pancaratra. How all the Gods invoked Her so they could ask a boon. Their request: "You must become the daughter of Daksa (ritual-skill) & seduce Siva." - Katha Upanisad. A lecture on the fear She induces. - Taittirtya Upanisad. The creaton of the world/s is explained, mentioning Ma as digambara (clad in space / unclothed). - Mahabharata. The verse Sameer mentions: "I bow to you, leader of the Realized, Arya (noble-goddess) who dwells in heaven. O tenebrous maiden garlanded with skulls, tawny, bronze-dark, I bow to you who are the auspicious Power of Time, Maha-Kali (Transcendent-power-of- Time)" - Mahabharata 6.23, 4-5 - Varada Tantra. Mantra information for the Mother. Hers is the adya bija (primordial seed) whose sound is krim. 'K' = Kali, 'R' = Brahman, 'I' is the transcendent power of illusion, 'M' is the dispelling of sorrow. - Tripura-tapini Upanisad, Mahanirvana, Varada Tantras .. all mention Her. - Krsna Upanisad. Here She is called Visnu's Mace: "The mace is Kali, the power of time. It destroys all that opposes it." As a manifestation of Vishnu, Krsna also carried this mace, which is why His worship of Her is mentioned in the Mahabharata. Om Shanti ... Guest guest
27.8 Om Kali, Ma Yogini, I would also like to mention here that in the Ramayana, Hanuman takes Ma Kali's blessings to overcome the demon Mahiravana ( a son of Ravana) who was holding Rama and Lakshmana captive and was about to sacrifice them Ma Kali. Hanuman after beheading the demon chooses to become Ma Kali's attendant.
