Guest guest
Happy New Year to all list members. One of my resolutions to take a more active part in the lists I am on. Encouraging discussion and so forth. I was wondering if folks(if they feel like) would like to discuss/share how Kali has affected and continues to affect their life/spirituality. For those who came to her devotion out of other religious traditions as well as those who were raised in traditional Hindu practice. As for myself I came to her via goddess worship/spirituality. If one can view her as a patroness, she has manifested in my life for about 10 years or so now. I have hosted a puja circle to her for goddess groups in my area and written about her and other "so-called dark" deities in a book recently published. Things I would have never thought I'd do 20 years ago! I was also wondering if anyone would like to share their poetry, prose about Ma here. Sometimes this list seems so sterile in that it's: Oh, where can I get information and then some kind person will answer that query, which is wonderful. But I"d like to see more group interaction posts? What do you all think? Namaste, Nyx
Guest guest
What's the name of your book? I had a couple of short essays published in 2001 in the anthology. "In The Footsteps Of the Goddess," edited by Cristina Biaggi. Only three or four men appear to have contributed (there are over 60 contributors). I'm a Wiccan, as well as a Shakta Hindu, and I KNOW there are male Goddess worshippers out there! I'm more drawn to Durga than to Kali (one of my essays tells how Durga manifested to me at the Hindu Temple in Flushing). But since my mortal mother passed away last February, I find myself relating more strongly than before to Kali and the various MahaVidyas (Wisdom Goddesses). I'll be presenting a talk about Kali and Sarasvati ("The Black Goddess and the White Goddess") at EtheraCon in Poughkeepsie NY, the weekend of January 16th. Guest guest
Hi Nyx, I was really glad to read your email. I joined the group to see what others were doing about Kali in their lives, but as you say, its been pretty sterile out there! I'm from California, there's nothing Hindu or Indian in my backround at all... but somehow, even when in elementary school, I was drawn to Indian philosophy and religion... Kali to me is the ultimate symbol of the universe, the vast Oneness that is differentiated into All This and both births and eats everything... but there's something more, something unexplainable... all the other gods and myths are legends, symbols.. but Kali lives in my heart in some different way, more alive, demanding attention... I read the Bengal poetry to Kali and it touches me... I wouldn't even know how to put it into words. But this universe is very wonderful and very hard all at the same time, and Kali is that expression that our small minds can understand... when we lose our illusion of personal ego, we understand that there are no separate things. We all long to rejoin our fierce Mother. How do the non-traditional out there express their relationship with Her?
Guest guest
Dear Len (& list members): Sorry, it took so long to answer your query. I recently co-wrote: The Dark Archetype: exploring the shadow-side of the divine, with my co- author, Denise Dumars. It is geared towards Neo-Pagans. So folks please do not expect a traditional Hindu perspective. I know "In the Footsteps of the Goddess." It has the dancing women on the cover, doesn't it? I must admit it is not yet on my bookshelf, but I will certainly pick it up, now that I know you contributed! In fact, I think several women I know here on the West Coast contributed to it, come to think of it! I found it quite a chore to write my Kali chapter. It was the first chapter I started to write and the last one that I finished--after the deadline! Other chapters, that I was not as emotionally invested in, just flowed, but that one...how does one describe MA in a few pages? It was quite daunting. (This shouldn't surprise the readers of this list. LOL) It also was a lot shorter than I wanted it to be, due to editing limitations and other chaotic events. Need a little chaos in your life, write and get published! But it's good chaos. Wink. Still I had the feeling that She wanted it to be birthed in that fashion, so I let Her lead. The lesson was: Do Not Be Hesitant, Fear Not! Kali_Ma, kalipadma@j... wrote: > > What's the name of your book? > > I had a couple of short essays published in 2001 in the anthology. Guest guest
Many of your questions have been answered in the previous postings of this group. Please check out the group page Kali_Ma and take a look through past posts! There you will find lots of useful information. Guest guest
As I only check this group once a week, please forgive that your posts don't appear right away! I believe things are currently set up as moderated and I bow to the wisdom of the group owner, since we do get our share of "non spiritual" postings of a porn or sales pitch nature. Thank you for sharing your personal perspective on Ma, Dan! When I read this: ".. but Kali lives in my heart in some different way, more alive, demanding attention... I read the Bengal poetry to Kali and it touches me... I wouldn't even know how to put it into words. But this universe is very wonderful and very hard all at the same time, and Kali is that expression that our small minds can understand... when we lose our illusion of personal ego, we understand that there are no separate things. I encourage those on the list to answer Dan's question and continue on this thread. > How do the non-traditional out there express their relationship with Her? Dan, there are several CA based Kali/Shakti temples, are you familiar with Kali Mandir in So. Cal or the maabatakali center in No. Cal?
