However Baba proved His power of Omniscience by reading his mind and the Sadhak returned highly satisfied and blessed. ---------------- 2. SAI PHILOSOPHY: SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA. These messages are the outcome and essence of the dream sequences of Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath, which reflect the Sai Philosophy and his high thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are generally thought provoking, enough to set one?s thinking process. 56) 17th June 1996: Mutual love is essential for a couple to complete all the mundane responsibilities of life. Once over, they have to turn it into love towards "GOD" for self-realization. 57) 21st June 1996: A lot of bad habits are acquired in a hurry. When that phase of life is over people start to long for good habits. The sooner this stage sets in it is better. Otherwise they die a premature death. 58) 12th July 1996: Your enemy is like a palm tree with thorns. There is no need to embrace him. Just as palm dates are sweet in taste, there are some good hidden qualities in them. Try to recognize and emulate them. 59) 12th July 1996: When you are in a fight with an enemy, all your kith and kin will stand by ready to help you. But none will come to your rescue when you are fighting death. 60) 10th August 1996: A woman about to deliver is in same state as an old man whose count down has begun. While the woman brings in a new life to the earth, the elderly man chanting the name of LORD prepares himself for rebirth. SAI IN LETTERS: Madhusudhan Nori, Hyderabad, India nomavi AUM SRI SAIRAM SAI IN LETTERS (Saibanisa's letters to his Son) http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/ocean_of_mercy/sai3.jpg Translated from the Telugu original into English by Sri Sai Devotee Madhusudan Nori. Secunderabad - 28 February 2000 I request the readers to read first Sri Sai Satcharitra in English by Late Sri Nagesh Vasudev Gunaji, before reading these letters. http://www.geocities.com/seenukv/day-01-thu.htm OM SAI Hyderabad 02 February 1992 Letter - 28 (Chapter 30) Dear Chakrapani, I have never performed the daily recitation of Gayatri Mantra in my life and have not studied Vedas and other Spiritual scriptures. But I am enjoying the good benefits, derived from daily recitation cum meditation of Gayatri Mantra and study of Vedas / scriptures, by daily devotional reading of Sri Sai Satcharitra (Life History of Sri Sai). Some may ridicule this belief of mine but I do not care for such scorn. Many individuals enter our lives and depart leaving us. Once Sri Sai enters our lives, neither we can be separated from Sri Sai nor Sri Sai will leave us. Even if any of us forsakes Sri Sai, HE will not forsake us, as another name (word) for Faith is Sri Sai. One need to light the lamp of knowledge called Sri Sai in our minds for driving away ignorance from one?s life. Whoever lights THIS lamp of knowledge will have blissful life. Those who live in the brightness of THAT lamp of knowledge are the lucky ones. Sri Sai fulfills the wishes of aspirants, if their wish is just and they sincerely pray to HIM. Sri Hemadri Pant says in 30th chapter -Those who debate and criticize need not read these tales -. I will not say like that. My request is that please read carefully and diligently all the letters being written by me. Ponder over what you have read and seek answers in your mind to these two questions. Who is this Sri Sai? Will HE answer if called? Resolving to just try once, read Sri Sai Satcharitra with full concentration and devotion, understand HIS philosophy and then call HIM. Berate me if HE does not answer your call. I will write about a few Leelas of HIS, revealed to me, in this letter. I did not have peace of mind during December 1991, was suffering and hence reserved my tickets 10 days in advance for my journey to Shirdi on 16 December 1991. I was doing my daily devotional reading of Sri Sai Satcharitra on 16 December 1991 morning. I was reading this chapter 30 on that day and Baba's message in that chapter made me immensely happy. The message was - Go to BABA, your mind will find peace-. With that message ringing in my ears I commenced my journey and returned home after successfully completing the pilgrimage by Sri Sai's grace. Sri Hemadri Pant wrote thus in the Kakaji episode of this chapter - HE who invites for Darshan will make arrangements for welcome reception to the invitee-. Similar incident happened in my case. On the day of my first ever trip to Shirdi during July 1989,Sri Sai appeared in front of me in the premises of Sri Anjaneya Swami temple and accepted one Rupee coin as Dakshina. I have mentioned about this in one of my earlier letters to you, try and recollect. There is an inescapable need, in present times, for people like me to share their experiences, with Sri Sai, with fellow Sri Sai devotees and others for explaining that the experiences had by devotees with Sri Sai before he attained Mahasamadhi are all true. If one thinks seriously for a moment about the way Sri Sai simultaneously fulfilled wishes of Kakaji to visit Shirdi and of Shyama to honour the vows taken by his mother to the Sapthashringi Goddess at a village called Vani, we can get immense faith that Sri Sai is present in all forms of Gods and Goddesses. I have personally experienced this faith. After the year 1990, when I visited Tirupati for darshan of Sri Venkateswara or when I visited Sri Ganesh temple at Ranthambhore in Rajasthan or when I visited the Buddhist shrine in the city of Chang Wan in Korea, I had vision of Sri Sainath in all these divergent places. That is why I can assert with great confidence that Sri Sainath is a form of all Gods and Goddesses. Recollect the conversation between Kakaji and Shyama narrated in this chapter. If you are unable to recollect I am quoting that conversation now -Kakaji asks Shyama who are you and wherefrom have you come? Shyama replies I am from Shirdi and I have come here to fulfill vow to Goddess Sapthashringi. The moment this sentence was uttered, Kakaji realized that the visitor was from Shirdi and warmly hugged him. There was a similar incident in my life. I had commenced my journey by air from Bombay on 06 May 1991 at 0130 hrs. For Korea. I was afraid of flying, as it was my first experience. After we boarded the aircraft the engines were started and my mind was filled with fear and anxiety. The aircraft lined up at the runway end and commenced its take off run. As the aircraft started gaining in speed my heart beat also started racing. The aircraft took off, commenced its climb which seemed to me as if it was piercing through the sky and I felt like that my life force was leaving for heavenly regions of space. I closed my eyes and started meditating on Sri Sai's name, I drove away all thoughts and my mind was filled with nothing else but Sri Sai. Captain of the aircraft addressed the passengers, after about 10 minutes, through the speakers in the passenger cabin -The aircraft is flying at an altitude of 40000 feet, maintaining a speed of 900 miles per hour and the outside air temperature is -40 degrees C (i.e. 40 degrees below the freezing point of water), you may unfasten your seat belts and relax-. My mind became calm on hearing those words and I opened my eyes. I noticed a tall, must be 6' or more, well built, fair complexioned person with big Kumkum mark on his forehead, was seated in the adjoining seat. He looked like European and the beautiful smile on his face drove away all the fear from my mind. I felt like conversing with him. I asked him - Who are you and where from have you come? The same question put by Kakaji to Shyama in those days. Can you hazard a guess as to what was his reply! I was astonished at that person's reply. At the time of passengers boarding the aircraft he sat next to me. The aircraft started moving, my mind was filled with anxiety and fear and I did not speak to him then. I closed my eyes and started to meditate on Sri Sai to drive away the fear. After opening my eyes I asked him the questions who are you and wherefrom are you coming? I suppose that by now you have guessed correctly his response. I am quoting his response so read on carefully. He said I am a Hindu and I came directly to Bombay airport, after having darshan of Sri Sai Baba at Shirdi, to take this flight to Hong Kong. When I heard this sentence I was thrilled with joy and hair on my body stood on its end. Words fail to express my condition at that time, as this was the response to my meditation for 10 minutes on Sri Sai for driving away my fear. I felt that Sri Sai himself in the form of that gentleman was sitting next to me. I held his hands and mentally thanked and prayed to Sri Sai. Thereafter I had a very pleasing conversation with him. I started reciting mentally the morning Harati of Sri Sai at dawn and he expressed a desire to hear the Harati. Hence I recited the Harati at low volume so that only he could hear it. It was 0530 hrs. early morning as per Indian Standard Time, when I finished reciting the Harati, but it was 0830 hrs (local time) in the morning as per the Air Hostess. We were served breakfast, I offered the items to Sri Sainath and both of us partook the consecrated breakfast. While eating I said that this is Sri Sainath's prasadam (consecrated food). He laughed and said that can you prove that this breakfast is Sri Sainath's prasadam? I started thinking on what to say and how to convince him, when I noticed the inscription SWISSAIR on the tray. I took a pen from my pocket, underlined SAI in the word SWISSAIR and showed it to him. He was very pleased and bought a packet of chocolates from the in-flight shop and presented them to me. At that time I experienced a feeling that Sri Sainath himself is blessing a devotee by giving him a sweet. The aircraft landed at Hong Kong airport, he got up from his seat to disembark at his destination and I asked him his name and address. He gave me his visiting card, asked me to be in touch on my return to India and moved on. I returned to India on 21 May 1991, and I wrote 2 letters expressing my gratitude to him but there was no reply from him. Thereafter I examined closely the visiting card given by him. The image of the world printed on that visiting card astonished me. I will now write about the feelings generated in me on studying that visiting card, try to understand me. I was a fool not to recognize Sri Sai when HE sat next to me in that flight. I did not pay attention to that visiting card when he said to keep in touch after my return to India. When I did not receive a reply to my first letter, still I did not realize that HE was Sri Sainath himself. When there was no reply to my second letter also, then I examined closely the visiting card, noticed the image of the world on that card and then I realized that HE was Sri Sainath himself. How can anyone limit one name and one address when Sri Sainath is omnipresent and everywhere? This fact I realized very late. I have placed before you all my thoughts; I want you to think deeply on my experiences and realize that Sri Sai is all-pervasive, omnipresent and everywhere in this world. The day you realize this, I will feel vindicated that the purpose in my writing these letters to you has been achieved. In service of Sri Sai, Your father ------------ 5. SAIBANISA'S THOUGHTS ON GRUHASTHASRAMA : http://www.saidarbar.org/discourses/2b.jpg Sri Shirdi Saibaba practiced celibacy through out his life. BABA advocated his devotees to follow the traditions of family life in order to achieve social harmony. This alone will help in building a healthy society and usher alround happiness in one's life. Baba wanted his devotees to fulfill their moral and social obligations called for in the materialistic World and then to work towards the ultimate i.e. reaching the God. Incidentally a major portion of Baba's devotees are from those who follow 'Gruhasthasrama' without any hindrance. Saibanisa Gopala Rao Ravada has read a number of Books and literature on this particular topic by different authors and desires to put his ideas before you all. Hence an attempt is made to high light his observations on this subject, aptly titled as ' Saibanisa's thoughts on Gruhasthasrama'. We earnestly hope that our readership will appreciate and encourage our efforts. Raghu Raman Satulury 16. Helping the poor, offering prayers to a God/Goddess in a dilapidated temple, and performing last rites to an orphaned dead is worth hundred times that of performing Yagnas. 17. It is but natural to encounter displeasure at times even with close friends, and problems with enemies. 18. When visiting, do not go empty handed to the following: elders, a pregnant woman, the God, The Guru and a King. At the most carry a flower or a fruit. 19. In the materialistic world, it is the wife who shares, gives happiness and pleasures of life. 20. A person with good faith can only make a good friend. To be continued? ------ 6. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA "SV.SWAMY" svswamy1 & swamyswarna 17 Feb 2004 14:46:53 -0000 Sai Ram. Let us take up the study of Chapter 10 in Satcharitra. And let us enjoy the spiritual gems that come out of the depths of this Satcharitra Ocean. "Remember Him (Sai Baba) always with love, for He was engrossed in doing good to all, and always abided in His Self. All other Gods are illusory; Guru is the only God." Sai Ram. All other Gods are illusory - what a bold and apparently irreverent statement? Especially when Sai Himself did not allow any one to show disrespect to Gods? So what does Hemadpant mean? That all other Gods or rather, their forms are perceived by our senses, in this case our eyes. If Krishna plays divine music over His flute or Saraswati plays Veena we hear with our ears. If a divine fragrance is emanated when God makes appearance, we perceive with our sense of smell. And if God's prasad tastes wonderful, we again sense that with our tongue. And when God touches us with His divine hand, we sense the love and the affection with our sense of touch. But all these senses are illusory in the sense that they are part of the body-mind complex, which is impermanent. That this is impermanent and our true nature is that of the Atman, Satchindananda is taught by Guru. So Guru is real. And since God as Parabrahman is real, Guru is the only God. That is why, the sloka goes as, "Gurur Brahma... Guru Sakshat Para Brahman, tasmait Sri Gurave Namah." "If we believe in Sadguru's holy feet, he can change our fortune for the better. If we serve Him nicely, we get rid of our Samsar. We need not study any philosophy like the Nyaya and the Mimansa. The Sadguru looks to the intense feeling and devotion of his devotees, endows them with knowledge and eternal bliss. "Nyaya, Mimansa etc. are adjuncts of Vedas. And Vedas themselves, the Karma Kanda part, are considered unimportant from the consideration of a spiritual seeker. To cross the Samsara Sagar, we need a boat and we need a helmsman to steer the boat clear of all our dangers. Our body-mind can be thought of as the boat and the Guru who guides our intellect etc., as helmsman. True surrender is important in getting rid of our ego and once ego is destroyed, bliss results. Sai ram. "In the last chapter, Baba's mendicancy, and devotees' experiences and other subjects are dealt with. Let the readers now hear, where and how Baba lived, how He slept, and how He taught etc. "All these leelas of Baba are given here with only one aim and that is to increase our interest in matters spiritual and thus slowly but steadily wean us away from mundane materialistic desires and thus lead us back to our true origin. That is the journey that Hemadpant is talking above. And Sai is helping us by being the helmsman. Even when apprently another human being takes on the role of the Guru, it is Sai who is seated in the heart of each of us, who is using that body as a mere instrument to help us on the journey. Like He is using me as an instrument to bring these spiritual gems up to the surface from the depths of the ocean floor of Satcharitra. Sai Ram. Baba's Wonderful Bed-Stead I am sure all of you are familiar with the wonderful story given out by Shri Hemadpant. Why did Baba allow even this hint of His miraculous powers to be seen? Just to generate curiosity in the onlookers so that they get attracted like bees to the honey in the flowers. So that when they come to Him in search of His powers, He can use that same great mystic power to refine their egos. Sai Ram. ------------------------------- 8. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) "Shashi": shashi_31 9. Sri Sai Baba?s Garland of Gospels. 1. Wherever you may be, think of Me and I am by your side only. 2. You must do good. If you do good and surrender it to God, good will come to you. 3. God helps My devotees through Me. I am His instrument. 4. Pull down the wall between us and then we see each other clearly face to face. 5. People differentiate between themselves and others, their properties and other?s properties. This is wrong. I am in you all and you all in Me. 6. During many births I have already been with you. We shall meet again and again. I have to rake care of My children night and day and give an account of every pie to God. 7. Do no say that anyone is inimical. Who is whose enemy? Do not entertain ill-feelings towards anyone. All are one and the same. 8. You must cultivate ?SABURI?. Saburi is gross. Do not discard it. It ferries you across to the distant goal. It gives manliness, eradicates sin, and dejection and overcomes all fear. 9. To get ATMA-GNANA, Atma Aunstana (Dhyanam) is needed. Give up all desires and dwell in your mind upon God. If the mind is thus concentrated, you will achieve your goal. 10. If you make Me the sole object of your thoughts and aims, you will attain PARAMATHMA. Look at Me with undivided attention. Then I will look at you. This is the only Truth. To be continued? -------------------------- 9. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg Smt. MadhuGopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. I have told you 24 stories during the year 2003. Baba told before He took His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like to play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His devotees. So I will start Krishna Leelas with effect from this first issue of New Year 2004. I Wish you all A Happy New New_year 2004. Study well and learn good manners. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi Sai - Fortnightly E-magazine and narrate Krishna Leelas from this magazine. SRI KRISHNA IS BORN: (Remaining part): It was raining heavily, the river Yamuna has swollen. The constellation Rohini guided Vasudev's way in dark night. Sheshnaga, the celestial serpent spread its thousand-headed hood over him like an umbrella. Vasudev then reached the banks of Yamuna. He stopped there. The water of Yamuna was swirling furiously. He had to cross the river to reach Gokul situated on the other side. With a prayer on his lips he stepped in to the river. And a miracle happened; the river parted and gave way to Vasudev to cross the river. As soon as he reached Gokul the river resumed its fury. The celestial serpent Sheshnag protected them all though. When he reached Gokul, it was very quiet and nobody could be seen on the streets. He reached his friend Nand's house and tapped a window. Nanda's wife Yashoda had just given birth to a baby girl but surprisingly everybody at home except Nand was fast asleep. Nand opened the door and was surprised to see Vasudev. Vasudev then told him about the birth of Sri Krishna and what Lord Vishnu had told him. Nand assured Vasudev of all help. He quickly took the child and promised Vadudev that he will guard the child for the rest of his life and bring him up as his own son. He then picked up his new-born daughter and handed her to Vasudev, to be taken back to Mathura. Nand then placed Shri Krishna beside his wife Yashoda. Giving great thanks to Nand Vasudev left for Mathura immediately. Once again Sheshnag escorted him and once again the river Yamuna gave way. Soon he reached the prison. Sheshnag then vanished. As he entered the prison the doors closed behind him and soon he was in chains. Just then guards woke up and whey they heard the cries of a baby they rushed to report it to Kansa. Kansa immediately left for prison as soon as he got the news. Inside him there was a fear to see this divine child. Seeing him coming Devaki fell on his feet and prayed to spare the child, as she was a girl and not a boy as per the divine prophecy. She said that the girl would definitely not harm Kansa. But Kansa did not listen. "Hand me over the baby," he thundered. Kansa then snatched the baby girl from Devaki and tightly held the child by both of its legs and raised his hand to dash the baby on the ground. But surprisingly the baby slipped out of his hand and flew out of the window. As she rose in the sky Kansa heard her saying that she was goddess Durga and he could not harm her. She told him that the one who would destroy him had already taken birth. Kansa became very angry when he heard this but he also became confused. He could not understand how anyone could have moved out of the prison in such tight security. Besides Vasudev was also in his chains and other gates of the prison were locked. He made a pledge to kill his enemy as soon as possible. He immediately called the witches and asked them to kill all new born babies in Mathura born in the past month. ARTICLES FROM SAIDEVOTEES: Sai Ka Laadla: saikalaadla Tuesday, January 20, 2004 2:05:56 AM Shirdi Blessed is Shirdi and blessed is Dwarkamai where Sri Sai lived and moved until He took Mahasamadhi. Blessed are the people of Shirdi whom He obliged and for whom He came such long distance. Shirdi was a small village first, but it attained great importance, on account of His contact and became a Tirtha, holy place of pilgrimage. Equally blessed are the womenfolk of Shirdi, blessed is their whole and undivided faith in Him. They sang the glories of Baba while bathing, grinding, pounding corn and doing other household work. Blessed is their love, for they sang sweet songs, which calm and pacify the minds of the singers and listeners. How he makes us write about him the life of the saint is neither logical nor dialectical. It shows us the true and great path. The saints inspire the work; the devotee becomes only an indirect cause or instrument to achieve the end that can describe the true life of Sai Baba Sai Baba?s grace alone can enable one to accomplish this difficult work. So, when I took up the pen in my hand, Sai Baba took away my egoism and wrote Himself His stories while so many works regarding Sai Baba are extant, why should this (Satcharitra) be written? And where is its necessity? The answer is plain and simple. The life of Sai Baba is as wide and deep as the infinite ocean; and all can dive deep into the same and take out precious gems (of knowledge and Bhakti), and distribute them to the aspiring public. The stories, parables, and teachings of Sai Baba are very wonderful. They will give peace and happiness to the people, who are afflicted with sorrows and heavily loaded with miseries of this worldly existence, and also bestow knowledge and wisdom, both in the worldly and in spiritual domains. If these teachings of Sai Baba, which are as interesting and instructive as the Vedic lore, are listened to and meditated upon, the devotees will get, what they long for, viz., union with Brahman, mastery in eight-fold Yoga, Bliss of Meditation. What Did Baba Say about Satcharitra being Written If my Leela's are written, the Avidya (nascence) will vanish and if they are attentively, and devoutly listened to, the consciousness of the worldly existence will abate, and strong waves of devotion, and love will rise up and if one dives deep into My Leela's, he would get precious jewels of knowledge. These Stories are the outcome of His boundless and natural self-realization. Let him make a collection of stories and experiences, keep notes and memos; I will help him. He is only an outward instrument. I should write Myself My autobiography and satisfy the wishes of my devotees. He should get rid of his ego, place (or surrender) it at my feet. He who acts like this in life, him I help the most. What of My life-stories I serve him in his house in all possible ways. When his ego is completely annihilated and there is left no trace of it, I myself shall enter into him and shall myself write my own life. Hearing my stories and teachings will create faith in devotees? hearts and they will easily get self ? realization and Bliss; let there be no insistence on establishing ones own view, no attempt to refute others opinions, no discussions of pros and cons of any subject.
