Guest guest
Do not base your religious principles on the instructions of role-playing games! Polytheists seldom have a "Devil." All of the Gods have both positive and negative aspects. While Greek merchants were pouring libations to Hermes, asking for luck in sales and protection from pilferage, Greek thieves were praying to the same Hermes for an assist in finding rich merchants to steal from. Hermes was patron deity of both thieves AND merchants. Kali was worshipped by the Thugees (professional assassins). The vast majority of Kali's worshippers were NOT assassins. Read the writings of Ramprasad Sen, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, "Arthur Avalon," etc. to get a better idea of what real Kali worship was about. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Wed, 25 Feb 2004 19:01:17 -0000 "Pluto" <df4205 writes: > > It dosen't sound bad to be interested in the thugee. Guest guest
Namaste Perhaps the fact that the Thuggees were muslim, had anything to do with Kali being demonized? Thye used her as a patron goddess to do things that really, like Kalipadma and Pluto were saying, not what she is about. And of course, people such as film producers are going to capitalize on anything that sells especially if it is negative. I saw that film. I also saw Her portrayal in Indiana Jones. But we here all know better. Guest guest
I have never heard the Thuggees accused of being Muslims before. Very unorthodox Muslims, indeed! Where did you learn this? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Mon, 01 Mar 2004 13:43:36 -0000 "Faith and Wisdom" <spinningwheel130 writes: > Namaste > > Perhaps the fact that the Thuggees were muslim, had anything to do > with Kali being demonized? Guest guest
Hi Kalipadma Yes I agree,I was taken aback when I read that too.I will try to find the book. It is an old one from my school's library. But I remember reading that the Thuggees were actually of Islamic origins. But actually that is not that strange when you consider this is India we are talking about. A country known for mixing things up and being creative. Kali_Ma, kalipadma@j... wrote: > > I have never heard the Thuggees accused of being Muslims before. Very > unorthodox Muslims, indeed!
