Guest guest
You can probably rewrite the Sanskrit prayers to make vegetarian food into prasadam for Kali Ma. What do the Vaishnava prayers look like? I can apply my limited knowledge of Sanskrit towards changing references to Krishna into references to Kali. Both the Krishna and Kali cults originated in ancient Bengal, after all. And one reason why many Vaishnavas are uncomfortable with Kali is because she so much resembles Krishna. Krishna is infinitely attractive on the outside, but beneath the surface he's somewhat scary. Kali is somewhat scary on the outside, but beneath the surface she's infinitely attractive. Kali is Krishna, inside out! You probably would like to see the Kali Puja book, published by the Devi Mandir in California, translations by Swami Satyananda and the Bengali holy woman, Shree Maa. Guest guest
Kali Ma can be called Krishnaa (long final "a"). Similarly, Krishna is called "Shyam," Kali is called "Shyamaa." (Both mean "dark.") But there has historically been great rivalry between adherents of Krishna and adherents of Kali, especially in Bengal. Krishna worshippers tend to be fearful of Kali (I note that the Vedic Resources catalog published by the Hare Krishnas -- ISKCON -- never sells Kali images or religious items). And many Kali worshippers tend to be dismissive of Krishna. Sigh. Of course, all the deities are really the same. There is an interesting scholarly text by David Kinsley called "The Sword and the Flute," which compares Kali worship with Krishna worship. -- Len/ Kalipadma --- Jay Dayal <jai_dayal wrote: > From the little I know, KRISHNA IS ALSO ANOTHER NAME > OF KALI. Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group or any group but not to Mother/Lover Kali. It has been 9yrs since I was first introduced sort of by accident. It's a long story. I am awriter and do attempt to communicate via writing. My reaching out and offering to share to share from experience. You, I, we can argue forever about points of law. If that is your attraction to Mother Kali you have my sympathy. I like the example Ramakrishna gave of holding a disciples head under water. He asked what it was like when he came up. I long for Mother Kali in all her forms like a drowning child gasps for air. thank you. please forgive my arrogance. Kali_Ma, FAITH NYKIEL <faithmariecats> wrote: > Hello!
