SHUBH DEEPAVALI TO ALL,

Place in it the wick of a single pointed mind.

Light it with the Knowledge of Truth and

remove the darkness of Ignorance around you.

Just as one lamp can light many lamps;

let each youth kindle this Light in many hearts.

All other lights borrow from the Light of the Self. (Kathopanishad 2:2:15)

The Geeta (13:17) declares, "The Light of all lights resides in

everybody's heart."

The Light of the Self illumines everything in our life's experiences,

as the sun illumines the entire earth.

That which is the Light of all lights, is said to be beyond darkness.

It is that which is to be known - the goal of Knowledge. It is right

here in the hearts of all.( Bhagwad Gita Ch.13/Sh.17)

"Deepavali is a day dedicated to inner purity and noble character.

Cultivation of character is the premise for the national resurgence.

Political awakening, economic growth, social reforms and educational

programs are all wonderful. But let us remember that all these depend

upon the character of the people. Here is a happy day dedicated to the

opening-up of our individual hearts. Let all meet their friends and

neighbors at the same table and partake of bread. Let all misgivings

be forgotten, all grievances forgotten. Let us remind ourselves, at

least on this day, that we can be victorious over our impulses and

come to illumine for the world around the Lamp of Spiritual Light."
