Mon, 14 Aug 2000 16:01:09 +0100 Priya Sriman Raghu! & Mr. Jeff! Jai Srimannarayana! It is interesting that you are trying to know something about the meditation. Of course, you are already doing that in a way you have learnt. IT is fine and keep doing that, which helps in concentrating your thoughts at a point. Remember, that ''meditation' the word itself means that ''putting our ideas upon something.' While doing that we do not want any sort distortions. To get that ability we observe somany means. TM may be one among them. According to the vedic scriptures meditating upon God is highly accepted. There are two stages in that. 1. Dharana=Keeping only one object in the heart 2. Dhyana =allowing the thought process to move round that particular object. while doing that the object we keep must be a ''subha:sraya'' that means ''a pretty beautiful, divine, and so attractive with tremendous amount of knowledge todo anything. They are called divine attributes. There is, of course, a way to practice that. When thoughts run after so many things then how to control and when unwanted things appear, then what to do etc, That is a long but very natural and easy process, not complicated and conflicting. Everyone can do that if, one is interested. Though, the object we are talking about, appears imaginary, but it is not just imaginary. It is what we get from the Vedas and Rishis & Great Acharyas. You can know more about this in person. I was reading one of your earlier posts...I don't remember which...where the interviewer was asking if he should meditate on some idea. When we meditate on an idea, is this not contemplation rather than meditation? I was recently trained to do TM and ideally the only thing in my mind at the time is my mantra, or, even better, nothing at all. How does this differ from your meditations? What is it like meditate on an idea or object other than a mantra?
