Guest guest
Dear SrImAn Aravind Raman: This question has been brought up and discussed in the bhakti list a few times. My undertanding is that as a vedic chanting, it is okay to chant rudram. But if the chanting is in a sannidhi of any god who has been consecrated as the Supreme Deity, and not as a member of the parivAram of vishNu, then it is an apacAram. In other words, for a SrIvaishNava to go and chant rudram as part of the offering for Siva in a Siva temple where Siva has been consecrated as the Principal and Supreme Deity, it is an apacAram. But in religious functions which are performed according to the SrI vaishNava Agama-s, chanting of rudram is permitted. This is my limited understanding. I look forward to learning from other members. -dAsan kRshNamAcAryan Aravind Raman [raman_aravind] Wednesday, February 21, 2001 9:12 PM '' Rudram Jai Sriman Narayana: Dear Bhaktas, I have a query: Rudram is part of Rig Veda and is a propitiatory sloka parayana for Shiva. Is it OK for a Sri Vaishnavite to chant Rudram knowing very well that Sriman Narayana is the Supreme Being who creates, sustains & destroys the universe and who alone is capable of bestowing Moksha? Guest guest
Hi Aravind! If you are SON of U.S. President and if you want to go and visit White House or talk to Mr.President do you really have to go talk to Presidents Secretary and fix an appointment and then talk to the President or visit White House. Do you really need to do that. If No, is the answer then you don't have to bother about rest of the people who work in White House. Similarly, When you know Lord Srimannarayana is the Ultimate Supremo and rest of them are his Subordinates and you are his SON then there is no point in chanting other than what you need. If still you think you feel comfortable chanting rudram go ahead. Your satisfaction is most important than Vedam. Best of Luck. Pavitra Ramanuja Dasi.
