Guest guest
Jai Srimannaraya! We here in Detroit also performed Bhishma Ekadasi in a private home suitably by reciting Shri Visnu Sahasranama Stothra eleven times at a stretch. At the end there was a small discussion about the significance of this day. Some of the members were of the opinion that it's on Bhishma Ekadasi day the good old seer Bhishma has shed his mortal coil & attained heavenhood. While a section were of the opinion that Bhishma lay wounded in the battlefield & was awaiting the auspicious moments of Uttarayana Punyakalam, & it is only after seeing Dharmaja with his brothers etc including Lord Krishna & after answering Dharmaja's querry in the form of this great Vishnu Sahasranama Stothra, he attained heavenhood. In which case that day could not have been Ekadasi day to coincide with what we celebrate as Bhishma Ekadasi day. I would earnestly request His Holiness Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji to kindly clarify on this issue & clear our doubts. With my humble Pranaams at your lotus feet, Balakrishna Abburi.
