Guest guest
Q. Surrender as shown by Bhishma and Vibheeshana. Reply: Priya Sriman Seshagiriji! Jai Srimannarayana!. Your friend had helped us a great deal. If he would not have asked this question, we should not have discussed this issue at all and accepted that, this may the way. Vibhi:shana and Bhi:shma both are good and knowledgeable by themselves. The only difference between them was, Bhi:shma was a Kshatriya and whereas Vibhi:shana was a Demon. Vibhi:shana surrendered in total, of course, expecting his own kingdom back to him, without any interruptions viz., Ra:vana, Kumbhakarna etc. He wanted it for the sake of the people, who were suffering under Ra:vna. Bhi:shma, on the other hand, was a great righteous scholar, who mastered all the sa:sthras and known to his ve:dic practices. He made a promise to his father that he was not going to marry anyone and at the same time, he would be the gaurd to the THRONE OF KURU KINGS, in other words, to the children of his would be step-mother, Satyavathi. Binding to that word, he remained a brahmacha:ri (spinster). After that, due to somany reasons, Kuru Kingdom came under the control of Duryo:dhana, the most wicked and croocked. Yet, sticking on to his oath, Bhi:shma became the protector of the Chair, (i.e, Duryo:dhana). Pa:ndava:s, unfortunately, being great warriers, righteous and devotees to Lord Sri Krishna, due to their ill-fate, they remained homeless. Knowing all this, Bhi:shma, became prey to his own oath to protect the chair of the kingdom, no matter, whoever may be the king. Now, the point is, why Bhishma, after the war was declared and Lord Krishna was also on the support of Pa:ndavas, did not change his mind and join pa:ndavas. There are two answers: 1. Because, he made a promise to his father to support the person, whoever may be on the chair. 2. because, he was eating the salt of the kingdom and that made him feel liable and also responsible to die for that kingdom. So he faught for Duryodhana. Unfortunately or Fortunately, Lord Krishna became his target to fight with. This is what we call as Ordinary Dharma. Whereas, Vibhishana, observed Extra-ordinary Dharma in giving up his everything there itself in Lanka and surrendered to Srirama. He tried his lever best in enlightening Ra:vana about the consequences. But Vibhi:shana was brutally insulted and ex-communicated. So, there was no other choice to him, except surrendering to Srirama. Lord Sri Krishna never asked Bhi:shma to remain with Kauravas or to join Pa:ndavas. =chinnajeeyar= Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Messenger http://phonecard./
