Guest guest
Smt Meenakshi garu! Jai Srimannarayana! Your question is good. O:m, tat, Sat all the three words appear synanyms. But not. In 17th Chapter of Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna mentioned about there three words in 23, 24, 25 & 26th slo:kas. O:m = to begin all the vedic activities. It must be chanted and started. For it is not only the essence of the whole vedas but also the origin of all the vedas. tat = Lord Krishna says, "non-attachment" towards the result of the activity one does, in accordance with the vedas. Basically the word says 'the famous one, who receives all the fruits of all the activities. sat = means 'one which is perceivable by some authority or means, viz. senses/inference/word of a great person ie., sabda. This is also called as sa:sthra. The essence of this is that whatever activity one does, he should get it from an authentic person and a right source, should believe that he is doing real, feeling real and will experience real only, but not unreal and illusionary. This is in brief. =chinnajeeyar= Make a great connection at Personals. http://personals.
Guest guest
QUESTION) "Karthik M Nagaraj" Meaning of 'Om Tat Sat' Namaste Swamiji, This is Karthik from California. With your mangalashanams we are doing good here. Swamiji, I had a question about the meaning of 'Om tat sat'. This phrase seems to be used at the end of a ritual/prayer. Even in Bhagavad Gi:ta at the end of each chapter we have this phrase. I was reading the meaning of this phrase from a Bhagavad Gi:ta home study group material and there they explain that it means - "Om means Brahman, tat sat - alone is the reality. The experession indicates conclusion. After all is said is done, the reality is only Brahman". Looking at the factual understanding of this, its fine but considering the fact of the lineage of the aacharya who explained this statement is an Advaitin (Sri Adi Shankara), this explanation might be a little inclined to an Advaitin's viewpoint. Because according to the advaitin's just the fact that you understand that Brahman (you) are that and that is the reality itself is acheiving immortality. Hence I got curious to know what is our viewpoint on this from the perspective of VisistaDvaitin? What about Dvatin's ? How do they explain this? Is it is similar or any difference or subtle inner meaning from what is already explained? Also Swamiji is it true that all Sri Vaishnavas are visitadvaitin's following Sri Ramanuja's exponent on the philosophy of body/soul relationship? ANS: DWAITIS, ADVAITIS AND VISISHTADWAITHIS ALL ARE, IN FACT, VAISHNAVITES ONLY. UNFORTUNATELY, TODAY, ADVAITIS FORGOT THAT THEY ARE ALSO VAISHNAVITES. VAISHNAVITE IS THE ONE WHO BELIEVES IN VISHNU AS SUPREME. ACHARYA SANKARA, RAMANUJACHARYA & MADHVACHARYA AND ALSO THEIR FOLLOWERS WERE ALL BELIEVED THAT LORD SUPREME IS VISHNU ONLY. HENCE, THEY ARE VAISHNAVITES. THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN SIVA AS SUPREME ARE CALLED SAIVITES. AMONG SAIVITES ALSO THERE WERE ADVITIS AND VISISHTADWAITHIS. IT MEANS, SIVA ADVAITA SAYS THAT SUPREME IS ONLY SIVA AND NOTHING ELSE EXISTS OTHER THAN HIM. NO WORLD ETC. SIVA VISISHTADWAITHA IS THAT ONE AFTER DEPARTING FROM THE WORLD, BECOMES A COMPANIAN IN SIVA'S ABODE, JUST LIKE OUR MOKSHA. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS WE SEE THE SUPREME AS VISHNU AND THEY SEE AS SIVA. MIXING UP BOTH THE FORMS WAS NOT AT ALL ACCEPTED BY ANY OF THE ACHARYAS OF ANY CULT. THIS IS A NEW CORRUPTION OF GODS BY MODERN SO-CALLED GURUS AND JAGADGURUS. IF YOU READ 17TH CHAPTER OF BHAGAVAD GITHA, YOU FIND THE DETAILS OF "O:M, THATH & SATH". WHEN AND WHERE THESE WORDS ARE TO BE USED IS EXPLAINED THERE. IN 23RD SLO:KA HE COLLECTIVELY SPOKE ABOUT THESE 3 WORDS. 1) O:M IS USED FOR VEDIC YAJNAS ETC., WHERE THEY WANT TO GET SOME RESULT OUT OF IT. 2) THATH IS USED BY THE DEVOTEES FOR ALL THEIR ACTIVITIES, WHO DO NOT WANT ANY RESULT. 3)SATH IS USED TO PROVE THE EXISTANCE & THE REALITY OF GOOD THINGS IN THE WORLD. SO, O:M THATH SATH, MEANS 'ALL THAT IS DONE IS REAL AND GOOD AND ONLY FOR THE SAKE OF LORD, THE RESULT THAT ACCRUED ON THAT IS ONLY TO GOD NOT FOR ME'. SO PEOPLE USE THIS AS A PHRASE. INTERPRETING IN THEIR OWN WAY IS ALWAYS WRONG. BUT PEOPLES PAITHYAMS CANNOT BE STOPED. LEAVE THEM FOR THEIR OWN SAKE. =Chinnajeeyar=
