Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana!, Asmad Gurubhyo Namaha!, Dear Devotees, Fixing my mind on Sri Swamiji's Lotus Feet, let me continue with my previous posting with notes from Sri Swamiji's pravachanam. I am sorry that in my previous posting, I wrote so many of my own insiginificant words rather than presenting you with Sri Swamiji's Divine words. The following content is taken partly from Sri Swamiji's discourses on Tirumantra during Dhanur ma:sa celebrations in 2000-2001. I wish to take a few significant words which Sri Swamiji spoke which only apply to the subject topic(acharya27). Please also note that I am not going into detailed explanations as provided by Sri Swamiji. Any detailed explanations are also beyond the scope of this posting. Speaking about the Prakriti, Sri Swamiji said that great people who contributed to Sa:nkhya Sa:stra analyzed the Prakriti around us and categorized it into certain basic number of elements. The basic elememts comprising Prakriti are: Pancha bhootha:s. Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Ether or a:kasa These are 5 in number. Dharmas or the essential qualities(gunas) of these bhootha:s. Earth has Smell, Water has Taste, Fire has Form, Air has Touch, Ether has Sound as their essential qualities. These are 5 in number. Add these to above 5, it becomes 10. Gnya:na indriya:s to recognize these gunas or qualities. Nose will recognize Smell, Tongue will recognize Taste, Eyes will recognize Form, Skin will recognize Touch, Ears will recognize Sound. These are 5 in number. Add these to above 10, it becomes 15. Karma indriya:s for the body to perform or work after it is formed. Legs, Hands, Mala dwara, Moothra dwara(these two are excretory organs), Va:k(the force which will make you talk) These are 5 in number. Add these to above 15, it becomes 20. Manas or mind, is the commander and is behind all these indriya:s. Add this to the above 20, the number becomes 21. Ahanka:ram or aham tathva is behind the manas. It is not the ego we normally refer to. This is the earlier or past state of all the indriya:s. Add this to the above 21, the number becomes 22. Budhdhi or Mahath tathva is behind the above mentioned ahanka:ram. Add this to the above 22, the number becomes 23. Moola prakriti encompasses all these above mentioned. This becomes the 24th tathva according to Sa:nkhya Sa:stra. These are the basic elements or tathvas. By mixing these elements or tathvas in different combinations we get different types of things or objects. Whether it is a tree, an ant, or anything else we see they are all formed as a result of combination of these. These basic elements and the things formed out of these basic elements are all non-sentient. Prakriti is comprised of these basic 24 elements. Our body also is made up of these basic 24 elements. This body cannot function on its own with the presence of these elements. For this body to function it needs chaintanya/gnya:na/intelligence/sentience. Even budhdhi which is part of this human body doesn't have intelligence on its own. For this budhdhi also to function it relies entirely on one thing. This tathva is called atma or jeeva or our soul. Atma is the one which has sentience and not any of the previously mentioned basic 24 elements. Thus Atma is the 25th tathva . This is our real self and not the gross body we are made of. So Jeeva's or atma's number is 25. Yours and mine. Yes, this is my number. The search for which my first posting started. But we can't realize that this is our number on our own. Paramathma is the driving force behind this atma. Atma cannot function on its own and is entirely dependent on Paramatma. Thus Paramatma becomes the 26th tathva. For an atma to know all these tathvas(Prakriti, Atma, i.e', himself and Paramatma) we need one more tathva and that is Acharya. Acharya is also one of the Jeeva tathvas, but is special because only through this tathva we can become knowledgeable about all the above mentioned 26 tathvas. Thus acharya is given number 27 according to the sa:stra and thus "acharya27". Now we know why it is acharya27, instead of acharya1 or acharya. Acharya reveals knowledge to us about 24 tathvas of Prakriti, 1 Atma tathva and 1 Paramatma tathva. Number 27 tathva reveals to us knowledge about 24, 25 and 26 tathvas. Thus, concatenating number 27 to the word "acharya" will further qualify the meaning of the word in addition to explaining the actual meaning of "acharya". This could be, say, for the sake of easy remembrance and simplicity for sishyas like us. So anytime we see an email from acharya27, we know that our acharya sent us the email to remind us of the numbers and also the significance of the tathvas behind the numbers. So let us all pray we don't lose this sambandham of the Holy Divine feet of our Acharya. I am unqualified to speak in detail about these. So I refrain myself from writing further. Dear Sri Swamiji's sishyas, We are extremely extremely fortunate to be under the padachcha:ya of such an Acharya. Let us all join together during Sri Swamiji's Tirunakshatra celebrations all over the world and Glorify Him and show our indebtedness for the Maho:paka:ram He did to us. Let us chant His thaniyan on that day: ====================================================== Durmukhyabde: towli sukla prathame: swa:thibhe: subhe: Pra:durbhu:tam gurum vande: Srimanna:rayanam munim Na:rayana:rya yathise:khara pa:da bhaktham Gopa:la de:sika vara:ptha samastha bo:dham Sri Ja:naki:sa charana:rpitha ma:nasa:bjam Na:ra:yana:rya yathivarya maham prapadhye: ka:syapa:nvaya sumja:tham Na:ra:yana pada:sritham Srimanna:ra:yanam vande: yathi:swara sriya:jusham ====================================================== Jai Srimannarayana!, Adiyen, Sai Ramanuja Dasaha Find a job, post your resume. http://careers.
