Elaborate information on the qualities of an Acharya is given in the

Mahaprabandham namely 30 poem Tiruppavai. But to know full details

of Tiruppavai which contains ocean of information containing images

from all scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads, Itihaasams, Brahmasootram

etc because of which it is compared to a small seed which is the source

of a big tree which is again a source of infinite seeds and again

infinite trees and seeds and trees.........; an able Acharya is again

needed for this elaboration. Though it is very difficult to elaborate

here, I suggest you start hearing to discourses of various Acharyas

based on the suggestions of your most revered elders. Without

listening/darshaning an Acharya personally it may be difficult to

decide on the same.

Just a brief of the most important classifications of an Acharya is

given below again from the essence of Tiruppavai

D. He who teaches those who approach Him only

C He who teaches his progeny just as a formality to pass on his

knowledge to further generations

B He who teaches those whom he feels are in utter need of the same

A He who reveals the secrets of His knowledge unable to hold the same

with Himself out of compassion to everybody irrespective of any criteria

without expecting anything in return

 

The category A is considered is best of all Acharyas

The foremost of all in the present age is Our beloved Paramahamsa

Parivrachakacharya Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna

Jeeyar Swamiji. Please meet and hear personally for yourself this

highly revered Acharya. Till such time you can hear to His discourses

on the Internet www.chinnajeeyar.org or else you can procure a big

Treasure House of His lectures compiled in the form of a single CD

containing more than 120 hours along with some more learned speakers

totalling to more than 10000 minutes, which again describe the qualities

of a real Acharya.
