qualities of an acharya

My name is SRIKANT. I reside at

visakhapatnam,India.This is in responce to the

Question asked by one of our freinds as to select whom

as the acharya.Though I am not WELL VERSED IN THE

shatras, I shall try to answer the question seeking

the blessings of THE HOLY LOTUS FEET OF HH.SRI SRI

JEEYAR SWAMIJI, whom I regard as my

mother,father,guide,Achaya,God and every thing in

life.

For the reply TO this question, lets go to the

master work SRI VACHANA BHUSHANAM which has the

commentry written by the Acharya even to God, Sri

MANAVALAMAMUNIGAL.

In the 3rd prakarna of the book the 308 th

verse SAYS," THAN HITHOPADEAM ........"

 

" HE (ACHARYA) must give the mantra & its meaning to

all those who come to him with desire."

( our swamiji never lets any one ,who wants to have

upadesa ,with empty hands.)

309-"TANNI MARRADI ........."

 

"WHILE GIVING THE INSTRUCTION HE(ACHARYA) MUST NOT

THINK THAT HE IS DOING IT INDEPENDENTLY ON HIS OWN.HE

MUST THINK THAT HIS ACHARYA IS MAKING USE OF HIM AS A

MEDIA.HE MUST TREAT HIS DESIPLE AS HIS CO-STUDENT

UNDER HIS ACHARYA."

 

( WHile giving the discourses our SWamiji many times

refers to HH.PERIYA JEEYAR SWAMIJI, SRIMAN

GOPALACHARYA SWAMIJI and HH also mentions that all

that in the discourse is the gift of the above said

swamis.HH also says that his holiness is only

continueing the tasks started by sri.PERIYA JEEYAR

swamiji.also HH. talks in plural sense as "we ,our "

this is all nothing but expressing that what ever HH

is doing his holiness is doing it along with SRI

PERIYA JEEYAR SWAMIJI but not independently)

312-"ACHRYANUKKU SHISHYAN ............."

 

"aN ACHARYA MUST HAVE TWO QUALITIES VIZ HE MUST HAVE

KINDNESS TOWARDS THE PERSON WHO HAS COME TO HIM FOR

INSTRUCTION . ALSO AS SAID ABOVE HE MUST NO HINK THAT

HE IS DOING IT ON HIS OWN"

( one can always notice the compassionate smile and

soothing words of our swamiji when one gets to his

lotus feet.)

316- " SANSARA VARDHAKA ."

"THOSE WHO GIVE THE MANTRAS WHICH CAUSE ONLY MORE AND

MORE BONDAGES LIKE FOR GETTING CHILDREN,VICTORY,ETC

SHOULD BE CALLED AN ACHARYA."

(our swamiji always mentions that it is only the

thirumantram & dwayam that are all powerfull and

grants only THEM to the seekers.These mantras are

sattvika in nature,do not cause any worldly bondage

but lead to MOKSHA.)

 

These are some of the verses of the great book which

deal with the qualities of an ACHARYA. I am sure after

reading this one can surrender himself to the holy

lotus feet of HH.SRI SRI SRI JEEYAR SWAMIJI without

any hesitation.I pray to be pardoned if I am wrong any

where.
