Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana! With the benevolence of HH Shri Swamiji and His guidance, I would like to continue the postings on Ramayanam! Shri Swamiji said that once we realize how insincere we are, we feel an urge to better ourselves. How do we do that ? As we are human beings, we easily try to avoid/evade any responsbilities by showing 100 different reasons for every act we have to do. If Lord stays in paramapadam and advices us a code of conduct, we will not bother. We may say that it is easy to preach than practice. So Lord has come down to earth as a human being to show what are the dharma:s and how they have to be practiced. That is what Sri Ra:ma Avata:ram is for. After demonstrating Dharma paripa:lanam for 11000 years on earth, during Sri Ra:ma Avata:ram, Lord thought that it is better to record His biography so that people in future generations get benefit from His avata:ram, as they did not have a chance to live during the avata:ra period. And also they will have a chance to practice Dharma as Ra:ma did by learning from the history. (Never in any other avata:ram Lord has considered about recording his life events ). If it is written by Gods then human beings may say that all these Dharmas can only be practiced by divine persons only. So He chose a human being to write the story. In human beings also if a person of higher learning writes it, people may say that this has to be followed only by people of that type only. So He chose a person from a tribesmen ('boya') family - a bird hunter by occupation - to perform this duty. Sapta Rishis have initiated 'Ruksha' a bird hunter to the divine name of Lord 'Ra:ma'. Ruksha was so immersed in divinity of the 'Ra:ma' namam that he forgot himself, his surroundings, his desires, hunger, thirst everything. For years together he sat immobile chanting the nectarious name, enjoying the beauty of the mantra and Lord. As seasons changed anthills grew up on his body. His physical body was absorbed into the pancha bhootas but his life is not lost. The life force or 'prana' stayed with him for years together. Finally when he came out after realization, he got a new body totally purified. His name became 'Va:lmi:ki' because he came out of 'Valmi:kam' or anthill in sanskrit. There was a great shower of rain and thunder on the anthill which caused the anthill to melt away awakening the Maharshi Va:lmi:ki. In Sanskrit the Lord of Rain and thunder is called 'Prache:tas'. Because Va:lmi:ki was awakened by Prache:tas (rain) his name became 'Pra:che:tas' The following are the dhya:na slokas singing about Va:lmi:ki - Koojantam Ra:ma Ra:me:ti Madhuram Madhura:ksharam A:ruhya kavita: sa:kha:m vande: va:lmi:ki ko:kilam Va:lmi:ke:rmuni simhasya kavita: vana cha:rinah srunvan ra:ma katha: na:da:m ko: na ya:ti para:m gatim yah piban satatam ra:ma charita:mruta sa:garam atruptastam munim vande: pra:che:tasam akalmasham (Sri Swamiji has given a wonderful commentary on the above slokas. Let us learn about the details in subsequent postings.) Thus lord purified a person from very low rungs of the society by vitrue of His name to show us just the power of His name and also to show us the path we need to follow, the dedication we need to have, the commitment we should exhibit. More over, Lord gave Va:lmi:ki a divine vision of re-enacting the whole story of Ra:ma:yanam as it occurred, before his eyes so that Va:lmi:ki can record it flawlessly including all the open and secret acts/words/deeds without a miss. Thus it is a living legend even today 19 million years after Sri Ra:ma avata:ram. No matter how low/high in the society we are, no matter how sinned/pious we are, no matter how illiterate /educated we are, no matter how poor/rich we may be the only name that makes us realize what we are is the name of Lord Ra:ma. The only story that tells us how we should behave is Ra:ma:yanam. Blessed are those who read Ra:ma:yanam and practice what is shown by Lord Ra:ma. Blessed are those who at least hear Ra:ma:yanam to cherish Lord Ra:ma fondly in their hearts. Their hearts will be filled with Lord Ra:ma and they will automatically be directed by Lord from inside. It is time to start practicing what we are learning. It is never too late or early in life to start doing right things. Everyday is a new day to learn. Let us all join in doing kaimkaryam to Lord, our Acharya and to the humanity by following Lord Ra:ma. Let us sing the sweet 'Ra:ma' namam everyday like Va:lmi:ki and become engrossed in its divinity. Let us sing the bhajan 'Sriram jayaram jaya jaya ram' at least once a day. Let us learn about another secret in Ra:ma:yanam in the next posting ... Adiyen Ramanuja Dasaha Murali Krishna Kalvapudi.
