Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana! With the benevolence of HH Shri Jeeyar Swamiji and His guidance I would like to continue the following few lines from previous posting on of "How sincere we are ..". After satisfying with Shri Swamiji's reply on the need to pray and "how sincere we are so far in our life", two more questions arose in the minds of audience, Is Lord Rama sincere and a perfect Human Being, how? and what should we do to achieve such high level, live like a human being. As if reading our minds, Shri Swamiji has elaborated on this and lead us to the immense joy of knowing Lord Rama's qualities and the secrets in Ramayana. Shri Swamiji said, "A flower has fragrance as its natural quality and a fruit has taste as its natural quality. Just like this, qualities ("guna:h" - in Samskritam ) are natural for a human being. Here qualities mean good qualities or virtues. As soon as we see a flower, we will feel happy at its beauty, fragrance and the delicateness etc. As soon as we see a fruit which is full of juice and sweet taste, our mouths water automatically and we feel happier - "Oh! What a great Mango! Oh! how good the bananas !" .. like that. Similarly, if we see or hear about a person who is having very good qualities, we appreciate his attitude and feel happy or contented with his nature. Everyone in this world has a desire to be a good person. Everyone wants himself to be regarded as a good person and praised by everyone else in the world. Everyone wants to acquire good qualities. But, if these qualities are natural, how can one "acquire" a new good quality which is not present in him ? Can a Rose acquire the fragrance of a jasmine ? Can a banana taste like a mango ? Shri Swamiji said, God is so benevolent that he has given this capability of "acquiring" to a human being and not to animals or birds or trees or stones. The human body is so special that one can "cultivate" whatever quality one wants. Lord Krishna himself has said in Bhagavad Gita "Idam sareeram kounte:ya Kshe:tram ityabhidheeyate: " "This human body, Arjuna, is called Kshe:tram" (Arable land). If you take good care, you can grow a nice crop in a fertile land. Similarly the seeds of good qualities will start yielding good flowers and fruits once we start nurturing them. This is unique to human body. Animals or birds or trees do not know how to "acquire" and "cultivate" good qualities. If we are not utilizing our capacity in this human body to do that, then we are not living upto the expectations of God, and we are in no way equal or higher than any other species in this nature. If a servant is being paid Rs.100 as his wage or salary, we expect service from him worth Rs.100/. If we are paying another person Rs.10000 as salary we expect lot more service, loyalty and sicerety from him and will not be satisfied if he does work worth only Rs.100/. Similary God has given us this body which is very valuable and difficult to get in this wonderful universe, expecting that we will do justice to the capacities of this body, utilize our senses to achieve higher state of learning and living. If we are not doing that, then we are not only insincere to our job instead we are also foolishly wasting the resources available to us in this very short span of life. Do we get this opportunity again ? Even if so, will we have similar circumstances ? Who knows ? Will God be benevolent and give us another opportunity ? May be or May be not ? Why should we waste one opportunity knowingly and wait for uncertain one ? So let us start knowing on what good qualities we can cultivate and how can we do that from Shri Swamiji in the next posting. .. Adiyen Ramanuja Dasaha Murali Krishna Kalvapudi. Jai Srimannarayana!
