Jai Srimannarayana!!!

Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Sharanam!

Topic: Houston Vikasa Tarangini, March 2002 Satsang

Date:Thur 7:30 PM, Mar 07

Place: Prashanti and Raghu Debbad

Attendance: 30 Adults

We have assembled at the residence of Debbads. We had a group chantings of

Guru parampara, Lakshmi ashtotram and Vishnu Sahasranaama Stotram.

The chantings were followed by a talk explaining the significance of Deepam

and Thirtham in daily puja. The talk is based on Swamiji's Pravachan in

Washington DC area on Aug 04,2001.

The Deepam (lamp) must have two wicks, the first one signifying our sacred

scriptures and the second wick represents Acharya's explanation of the

scripture. Both are necessary for bright light signifying true knowledge.

Thirtham should be considered as Sripada thirtham, Charanamrutam flowing

from the feet of Srimannarayana.Thirtham( the purified water) is given to a

devotees in three servings after chanting Om Achutaya Namah, Om Anantaya

Namah and Om Govindaya Namah, Prahalada chanted these three Vishnu namaas

before accepting the poison from his father. Swamiji explained the right

practice of taking the thirtham, the palm should be in Gokarana Mudra

(gokarana means ear of a cow), drink the theertham from the left bottom side

of the right palm, when you pour the thirtham, the thirtham should be up to

lifeline of the palm (Maasha magna pramanam).

The most important thing is to consider the theertham as the sacred Ganga

water flowing from Srimannarayana's feet. In the context of Sripaada

thirtham, Ahalya's episode in Ramayana was discussed highlighting the divine

touch of SriRama's feet. Shri Krshna's form as Vatapatra Shayee was also

discussed.

The group thanked our gracious hosts, Prashanti and Raghu. Everybody greeted

the arrival of little Yashwant Kandalam.

With humble pranaams to Jeeyar Swami from Houston devotees,

Jeevan Pulijal,

Jai Srimannarayana
