Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha! Sri Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Saranam! SriRamachandra is a ‘jithakrodha’. He had anger under his control. He was not angry even with Ravana who had abducted Seetha. He wanted to punish him because he was treading the path of ‘adharma’ and wanted to curtail him from committing such mistakes again. In the battlefield SriRama could have killed Ravana with a single arrow had he been really angry, when the latter stood in the battlefield with his chariot smashed, horses killed and the bow broken by SriRama. But he told, “gachcha anu ja:na:mi” and sent him back. SriRamachandra, the ‘jithakro:dha’ asked him to go back from the war field and come back with his chariot and bow and arrows for the fight. His feeling was that one’s crime should be condemned as it is adharma but the solution would not lie in killing the criminal. Every person should have this attitude. That is the basic tenet of humanity. After Ravana:sura’s death his own brother Vibhi:shana rejected to perform Ravana’s funeral ceremonies Then SriRama says , “marana:nthani vaira:ni” “our anger for his mistakes should last only till his death but not continue after his end. Now his vengeance cannot harm us. You perform his funeral. If not I will do his final rites as your brother is my brother too!!” Human beings require this sensitivity. Once SriRama lost his temper in the war. During the battle with Ravana:sura, Hanuman who was distressed to see SriRama standing on the ground and fighting with Ravana, who was seated comfortably in the chariot, took him onto his shoulders and with extreme skill and care had been protecting SriRamachandra from the darts of Ravana. An enraged Ravana:sura started showering arrows on Hanuma.Hanuma started bleeding all over. Hanuma infuriated at this became more furious and started jumping like a tiger in the field. Seeing Hanuma bleeding, SriRama became very sad. SriRama was gripped with fury at Hanuma’s plight. Va:lmi:ki says, “kro:dhasya vasame:yiva:n” He let anger conquer him. He will forgive and leave anybody offending Him but will not tolerate if anyone harasses those that adore and love Him. Mankind should cultivate this quality. SriRama pardoned Samudra for his misbehaviour in his case. He pardoned Ka:ka:sura who had offended Sita when the Ka:ka:sura came before him in a pitiable state. That is the speciality in his anger. He had no craving for kinship and left it without any attachment. He was never conquered by ‘ka:ma’. SriRamachandra proved to the world through practice that one who can keep these three in one’s control can only be a perfect human being Bhagavad Gita says that ‘ka:ma, kro:dha and lo:bha’ are the three ways to the Hell and hence should be shunned . “thasma:d ae:tha thrayam thyaja”, says the Lord.
