Guest guest
JEEYAR THIRUVADIGALLE SHARANAM. My name is Srikant , from Visakhapatnam,India.By the grace of our Acharya I take the courage to say a few words on SRI PARASARA BHATTAR, whose Thirunakshetram falls on the 25th of this month. Sri Parasara Bhattar Swami, was the successor of Swami Ramanujacharya. He was the only son of couple Sri Kooruthalwan and Andallamma. Sri Kooruthalwan was a great soul who plucked out his eyes in course of his ACHARYA KAINKARYA. Even Sri Ramanuja was sure that his relation with Sri Kooruthalwan was sufficient to get him liberation. SRI PARASARA BHATTAR inherited all the qualities from his father.Henamed so following the word given to Sri Yamunacharya by Sri Ramanuja, that a great Vaishnava will be named after sage Parasara, the author of Sri Vishnu Purana. It is said that Sri Ranganatha wanted that the cradle of SRI PARASARA BHATTAR should happen in his presence and he mentally adopted the child. Such is the greatness of SRI PARASARA BHATTAR even as a child. After Sri Ramanuja, SRI PARASARA BHATTAR became the Mathathipati. On the order of Sri Ramanuja, SRI PARASARA BHATTAR defeated a scholar of the west named Vedanthi and made him his disciple, who became famous as SRI NANJEEYAR. Then SRI PARASARA BHATTAR returned to Sri Rangam and taught humanity the path of liberation for 28 years. He authored several works: 1.Sri Gunarathna Kosham--This is a very famous hymn in praise of the mother of the universe, Sri Maha Lakshmi(SRI RANGA NACHIYAR) .All her divine qualities are expounded. 2.Ashta Sloki-- In this the meaning of the Great ashtakshri mantra is explained in just eight slokas 3.Bhagavad Guna Darpanam--This the most famous of SRI PARASARA BHATTAR.It is a commentary on SRI VISHNU SAHASRANAMA STOTRAM.The beauty of this is that, unlike other commentarys like Sankaras, etc, this does not just rely on the outward meaning, but gives the meaning basedon the kalyana gunas of the lord and also on 6th preceeding and sucseeding namas. This helps us to see the qualities of the Lord as easily as though we are seeing in a mirror, hence the name. Not only the above but SRI PARASARA BHATTAR also authored SRI RANGA RAJA STAVAM,also the alwar thaniyan "BHOOTAM SARASCHA------ PRANATHOSMI NITHYAM" is the gift of SRI PARASARA BHATTAR. Hence, I feel that it is our duty to pay our respects and express our gratitude to such a great Acharya on the occassion of his THIRUNAKSHATRAM which falls on the 25th of this May. THANIYAN: "SRI PARASARA BHATTAARYAHA SRIRANGESA PUROHITAHA SRI VATSANKA SUTHA SRIMAAN SREYASE MEASTU BHUYASE" JEEYAR THIRUVADIGALLE SARANAM JAI SRIMAN NARAYANA R.R.SRIKANT
