Guest guest
"Namaha Sri saila naathaaya Kunthi nagara janmanae prasaadha labdha paramapraapya kainkarya salinae!" Dear Sir , Namaskaram.Thank you very much for your kind letter and redirection of the enquiry of Mr.Venkat Iyengar.I am very happy to pass on informations regarding his enquiry. Thiruvaaimozhi pillai alias Sri Sailaesar(Thirumalai Azhwar) was born in the village Kunthi nagar in 1290 A.D. This village got the name because Arjuna of Mahabharatha married Chitrangatha, the daughter of the Pandyan king and settled in this village naming it after his mother Kunthi.Later the name of the village got corrupted and the village is now called Konthagai. This village is situated in the east of Madurai at a distance of 12km and hence is a part of greater Madurai. There is a town bus ( No. 15)from the central bus stand going straight to Kunthagai. There are also other buses going via Silaimaan where one has to get down to go to Kunthagai which is about 4km from Silaimaan. One can also engage an auto and the auto fare is around Rs.75 ( 2Dollars US). The presiding deity of Kunthi nagar temple is Deivanaayaka Perumal with Bhumaa Devi and Neelaa Devi as consorts. This temple has been recently renovated(5-6-2000). I'll be happy to pass on any other information that is required regarding this temple. Thanking you , I remain faithfully yours, V.
