Reciting Narayana Manthram

Namaskarams swamiji,

 

I rcently have read a book in which it was written

that His Holiness Sri Ramanuja Acharya climbed

the gopura of Sri Ranganatha temple and announced

the Asthakshari manthra and asked the devotees to

recite it with full dedicaton.

 

But many of His Holiness Sri Chinajeeyar swami's

saying goes in the way that the above manthra should

be recited only after getting upadesha from guru.

To me these two things look contradictory.
