Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana! Pranamams at the lotus feet of HH Shri Swamiji ! Adiyen, I have recently come to know that some of the off-the-shelf vegetarian food products being sold here in USA, like breakfast cereal from Kelloggs (Corn/Wheat/Rice flakes ..), Yogurt, Buttermilk from Dannon and also other manufacturers etc. contain 'gelatin' which is derived from animal fat/hide/bones. They use 'gelatin' to help texture of the product and it is usually derived from beef or pork. We check the "ingredients" list carefully everytime we purchase any new type of food product, to make sure that it is not containing any such animal products. This news is unpalatable to me and I feel very bad. I also came to know that it is not mandatory for any company as per FDA (Foods and Drugs Administration) rules, to include an ingredient in the list of ingredients on the container, if that particular ingredient is very negligible (say 0.1% or so). That's how we missed these items. More revelation is - even in the process of manufacturing most types of refined cane sugar, the product is passed through bone-char filter (made from animal bones) for absorbing the inorganic ingredients in the product. I will be more careful hereafter in choosing the items and urge fellow unsuspecting devotees also to keep a watch on 'hidden' ingredients/processes. I pray at the Lotus Feet of Shri Swamiji and our beloved Lord to give us more strength for observing 'sa:twik' food as His prasa:dam hereafter, forgiving my n-zillionth mistake. I also pray Shri Swamiji to enlighten us on how can we avoid such 'a-satwik' foods (for eg: by switching to 'oraganic' praparations etc.) Da:so:ham, Adiyen, Ramanuja Dasaha Murali Krishna Kalvapudi. Jai Srimannarayana!
