Dear Group

We know that Tiruvaymozhi has 7 commentaries:

1. 6000 padi by Sri Pillaan

2. 9000 padi by Nanjeeyar

3. 24000 padi by sri periyavaacaan pillai

4. 36000 padi by vadakku thiruveedi pillai

(also known as nampillai's)

5. 12000 padi vaadikesari alakiya manavaala jeeyar

6. 18000 padi by periya parakala swami

7. 24000 padi by vEdanta ramanuja mahadEsikan (on pillan's work)

what is not known is there is another commentary by a

lady called tiruk kOnEri dAsyai

She was a sishya of Nampillai and her commentary is

apparently unique. This was published some 60-70

years back and the original manuscript is with the

Saraswati mahal in Tanjavoor.

In the entire commentary thiruk kOneri dAsAyi uses

the first paasuram 'uyar vara uyar nalam' as a basis

as is said to be very different from other commentaries.

This work is mentioned in Sri B. S. S. Iyengar's

recent english translation of Nammalwaars Tiruvaymozhi.

We should try and get all these original works published

and provide the correct translations in English.

thanks
